This is a confession. The hardest thing I could ever do. I'm finally putting everything we spent our lives trying to hide on the forefront. Everything we tried to hide from the future generations, from ourselves. It's time the world knows of our sins. Of human kind's sins. It's time to open our eyes to the sins of the past. The sins that put so many people in danger. Not just people, but every living creature as well.
Greed. Greed is what ruins us, what blinds us from the truth. It will be what kills us in the end. What will kill the human race. Greed. The most powerful of the sins. Someone once said: "When the last tree is cut, the last river is poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that we can't eat money…"
I was born in the 20th century and I was fortunate enough to live to see the 21st century roll in. I dreamed that conditions would get better as time went by. It gave me hope. This hope I clung so dearly to disappointed me. People believed that the problem would fix itself. That everything would just fall into place like magic. I believed that too for a while. Until I was proved otherwise. I was one of the lucky few who were able to truly open their eyes to the growing problem.
Often people pretend. They spread the word to others without themselves following suit. Boosting their popularity by falsely advertising. This is what human kind has become. What it is doing. Killing the earth in which they were born. Not making an effort to solve the growing problems of this world. Everything that could help this earth is expensive. Not everyone can afford it. Humankind is greedy. If prices went down, more people could make an effort. Besides, since when did food become more expensive for being "all natural"? If we didn't have to pay so much to live, maybe we could put the extra money to good use. I'm not here to point fingers. My theories might not even be right, but I believe strongly in what I say now. Earth needs help, because without it, it will die. It and every creature living on it. This beautiful earth reduced to sad and desolate lands.
This is my confession, my final confession. My time here is up. I will fortunate to be able to die before the world is reduced to nothing. Which is a sad thing to say, as true as it is. They say that you shouldn't leave the earth with any regrets, but I will. My regret and confession is that I didn't work hard enough to help the earth when I could. It's too late to change that now. I, and many humans before me are leaving a huge burden on the next generation, and with this note I leave my final wish. For you to reflect on what comes next.
Have you done all that you can for this earth? Are you thinking of the earth even above yourself? Will the future generations shake their heads in shame because it will be too late for them? Because they will pay for our mistakes?
This is my last attempt to right my wrong. Don't let my efforts die in vain. Be the person who will change the world. Make it better so that the future of humankind can exist. Don't ignore the problem because you're just one person. One person can change the outcome, because if each individual makes an effort, the problem will be solved and my wish will come true.
This is my dying wish and I pass it on to you.
