I sighed in defeat in the direction of the door, cursing under my breath, and returned my attention to the onslaught of hopeful gazes from the most recent batch of guys around me. Did they not get a hint? Maybe I was wearing my 'Buy me a Drink with a Lame Pick-up Line and I'll bang you' shirt. I looked down just in case. Nope. Just a sleazy piece of scarlet red cloth apparently called a dress, because this thing, in no world, should be classified as one. If I tried to pull it down to cover up my ass, my chest would spill out, and vice versa. I just can't win with this thing.
All men are pigs, I thought as I yet again turned down another drink. If this Demetri guy doesn't show up in the next 10 minutes, I'm leaving this hellhole and having a nice, warm shower at home. I turned to the bartender and asked for another gin and tonic, and started anxiously waiting again as he expertly shook it up. I slid a couple of dollar bills across from my steadily emptying wallet and took a long swing from it.
The dance floor remained packed as the entrance remained empty. I felt a slight buzz settling in. I better stay off it and placed the glass back on the wooden table. Even though I can hold my alcohol, I never drink too much before an assignment. That is, if this guy had the common courtesy of showing up so I could kill him, I thought cynically and inwardly released a groan of frustration.
I glanced back at the entrance and smirked inwardly- Demetri had finally decided to make an entrance. His broad shoulders gave way to a pronounced 6-pack and the way he walked was akin to a predator stalking its prey. A pair of beady eyes perused the club until they landed on me. He grinned and began to gracefully weave his way through the pulsing crowd, his eyes never leaving mine. Perfect.
Let the fun begin.
I texted my best friend, Alice, about Demetri's arrival. Without waiting for a response, I shut my phone, slipped it into my bra, and smoothed out the wrinkles in my dress.
"Would you mind if I accompanied this lovely lady?" He was addressing the guy in the seat next to me. His protests were cut short after a look at Demetri, and he sullenly rose and left. The bench scraped the floor as Demetri took a seat, beckoning the bartender over.
I pretended to shift a little at his presence as he continued to leer at me, scanning up and down my body. I held back a shudder as I coyly rubbed my hand over his.
"Can you believe that my boyfriend stood me up? It was our one month too!" I huffed and slammed my drink on the table. I didn't know it was possible, but his grin stretched wider as his eyes shone with greed and lust.
"A pretty lady like you? I doubt it. But don't worry about the past, I'll keep you company for now. I don't mind," he responded and ordered another drink for me. "How about we go to this really nice place I know, far away from any of this crowd. I can show you a good time to make you forget about any other guy"
Hook, line, and sinker. Perfect.
I put on a face of interest and complied with his request. I got up and stumbled slightly, grabbing on to his jacket and grinning. "Just a little too much to drink, I think." I dazedly said and pulled him out of the club.
