I'm The One

The assignment for school was to cover a song that explained how I had felt at some point in a relationship I've had. Jade West immediately came to mind. We have been dating for a little more than two years. There were plenty of moments and feelings I could sing about. I just had to find the right song. I logged onto my computer and brought up YouTube. A lot of songs seemed good, but they were too popular. I didn't want it to appear that I had chosen the first song that popped into my head. Three hours later, I was still watching lyrics videos. On one video, my eyes skimmed the suggestions tab. The name 'Ke$ha' caught my attention. I didn't recognize the song title. Curious, I clicked it.

You're the one with eyes like windows.

Nothing you can hide that I don't know.

I can't see why you're keeping it a secret,

Her eyes. I could see it in Jade's eyes on our first date. I could tell she liked me, even though she acted like I was a big annoyance and said she just went on that date because she had nothing else better to do. I wondered why. I hoped she would soon show her true feelings for me.

It only takes a second to begin.

And all I want to do is let you in.

Oh.

I wanted to be with her. I barely knew her, but I could tell. We're meant to be.

One touch could set it all in motion.

We were sitting on the beach. Jade turned to me and I brushed some hair out of her face. My hand lingered. Her skin was so soft.

One word in the perfect moment.

"Jade." I had said. A while later, she had told me no one had ever said her name so softly, so sweetly. So loving.

One chance to take when it comes.

I had thought that I'd never get this chance again. It had taken two months of begging for her to come on this date. If I disappointed her, who knew when I'd get another chance? Possibly never. I leaned in for the kiss.

One life is all that we're given.

One love could make it worth livin'.

Jade didn't seem to understand this.

I knew Jade would try to leave.

I'm the one.

I needed her, she needed me. Beck and Jade, Jade and Beck. That's how it should be.

I don't know what you've been through

I could tell Jade had been through a lot. With friends, a guy, or family I didn't know.

Well I'm not them and they're not me.

I don't believe in hurt you can't undo.

I told Jade I would never do anything to hurt her. She struggled with believing it. She wanted to, but for some reason she couldn't. It was not until a few months later that I'd find out why.

You see complications you can't face.

But a single kiss could take them all away.

When I pulled my lips away, I could see the doubt leave her eyes. Ever since then, it's been Beck and Jade. Jade and Beck. I help Jade, I care for her and love her. I have tolerance for her, even when she's in her worse mood. I'm the one.
