Valkyrie ran. She knew she couldn't beat him he was a vampire for Christ sake! So when he came up behind her and pounced, she ran. She ran to the end of Cemetery Road passed the two funeral the parlours and up the drive of Skulduggery's house. Once inside she slammed the door and bolted for Skulduggery's hat room. This was the one room Valkyrie didn't like in Skulduggery's house because who needs a whole room just for hats and mirrors!
The front door was blown off its hinges and the vampire stalked in. It could smell her fear emanating from the door at the far end of the hall. It stood up straighter and walked toward the door. The closer it got the better it could hear her heart beating. Once outside the door the vampire checked its breath and fixed its hair. It turned the handle and opened the door and Valkyrie's fist collided with its face. She let out a cry of pain as the bones in her right hand shattered.
Skulduggery sat up with a start. Her scream had sounded so real. That's when he heard it again. He grabbed his gun from the bedside stand and ran to his partner's side. He reached the door to his hat room and saw that Valkyrie was fighting with a vampire. She obviously had a broken hand as she was cradling it against her chest. He couldn't help it. He stood in the door way watching her move. The way she fought was like a dance. One step forward two steps back. Twirl away from a deadly swipe move in for the kill. She sent an elbow in to his chest and then once he was on his knees she brought his head down to crunch into her knee. He fell backwards, unconscious.
That's when she noticed the figure in the doorway. She got ready to fight again but relaxed when she noticed that it was only Skulduggery.
"What" she asked. The way he was staring at her was making her feel uncomfortable. When he said nothing she asked again with more anger behind it, her hand was killing her.
"Nothing. Nothing. I just- nothing" He was acting strangely, even for a living skeleton. She felt her hand throb and her vision cloud.
"Um Skulduggery I think I'm going to collapse could you um catch me if I do". And just like that her thoughts clouded and she felt like she was falling into a pit of nothingness.
When she came round Valkyrie didn't open her eyes. She could hear someone talking to her in hushed tones.
"And I can't tell you this when your awake because it's wrong" He paused and took a shaky breath "Valkyrie Cain I love you I know I shouldn't but I do and I guess I've loved you for a while now but when I saw you fighting Caelan I-"
He was cut off by Valkyrie bolting up and screaming "THAT WAS CAELAN!"
Skulduggery sat there motionless "How much of that did you hear?"
"Bloody enough" and without any more hesitation she slid her hands under his shirt collar and activated his façade.
"Valkyrie what are yo-"
Again he was cut off but this time by Valkyrie's lips crushing against his. She pulled back almost sheepishly.
"I'm sorry that was way too forward of me"
"No that's alright" He took her gently into his arms and kissed her forehead
"I could get used to this" he heard Valkyrie mutter before the sunk into each other's arms….
