Disclaimer: Batman and Catwoman belong to DC Comics and each other.
Notes: Since Batman Begins and The Dark Knight seem highly influenced by The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, I'm thinking The Dark Knight Rises will be as well! Oh and Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway are Bruce and Selina! ^_~
That they meet on Valentine's Day, a day for love and lovers, means little. It's what Bruce tells himself for a third time that morning. It is sheer coincidence. They could have met any other day, at any other function. Yes, she is beautiful, but so are all the other women he's seen with.
They are introduced by… Someone Brown…Browning…Braun. He cannot remember much, except a black dress, dark hair up, and a lovely smile. They exchange some words. Bruce Wayne. Selina Kyle. Been traveling. Rome. Things to that effect.
It is of little consequence, but they dance. He dances with many women. One of her hands is on his shoulder, the other in his hand. Skin soft and warm. When she whispers in his ear, he nearly loses his footing even though what she says is lost to the music.
The band is playing Ella Fitzgerald and Selina hums along.
"Something funny?" she asks him as the music dies down."You're smiling," she explains.
"Was I?" He doesn't believe he was. She's imagining things. Bruce excuses himself. Leaves to dance with a another beautiful woman, one who doesn't make him feel a thing.
Alfred knocks on the door before stepping into the room.
"Good Morning, Master Wayne," he says.
A green smoothie and the morning paper are on the silver tray, as usual.
"Our new D.A., Ms. Porter, doesn't seem to like you very much, sir," Alfred says. And the headline Batman: Gotham's Most Wanted takes up a third of the front page. "However," Alfred is smiling, "On page 6, there's another young lady who apparently does."
Bruce takes the paper and reads Janis Porter's promise to rid Gotham of the Batman. He finishes the smoothie, then turns to page 6. There in black and white is an 8 x 6 snapshot located in the center of the page taken when he and Selina were dancing. Cupid Strikes Billionaire? reads the caption above the picture.
Bruce is not only smiling, he looks happy.
"Alfred?"
"Yes, sir."
She's smiling at him, too. They both look...
"Never mind."
It means nothing, he tells himself again. It means nothing.
