Dependant
"He won't be around forever! Learn to depend on yourself or you'll never get anywhere!"
Those words rang loud in Pilot's head. He sat on his berth, trying to tune them out. It had been hours and they wouldn't go away. Maybe it was true…maybe he is too dependant on others. But how could he not be? Everyone is like family to him, the closest thing to family he ever had. Especially Jazz.
Jazz has always been the older brother he never had. When he was a sparkling he had been drawn to Jazz's carefree, laidback attitude. He saw him as the ideal role model. So he stayed by his side nearly all the time. Wanting to learn from his example. Jazz never minded in the least.
Jazz was the one who was there when Pilot needed someone the most. Pilot easily fell into moments of depression, while it didn't happen often, it did happen. The one that always saw him through it was Jazz. When he needed help, Jazz was there.
Jazz. It's always Jazz.
This was one of those times he would need Jazz around to talk to, but instead he had gone straight to his quarters to think…alone. He didn't like it, he wasn't sure if Jazz was thinking the same way. He was probably stupid to think Jazz would have the same thoughts because it's not the way he was.
"Hey, Pilot, what's shakin'?"
Pilot's head lifted to see Jazz at the door. "Oh. Hey Jazz. Nothing really...just thinking."
"'Bout what?" Jazz smiled like he always did and sat down next to Pilot.
Pilot looked down a moment, he knew Jazz must have heard what happened. Just about everyone did, they just didn't bring it up or even offered any words of comfort as Pilot walked down the hall. Pilot had never felt so put down in his life.
"It's what Sentinel said, ain't it?"
Pilot looked at Jazz again when his words brought him back to reality and he just nodded slightly, "Yeah."
Jazz put a hand on his shoulder, "C'mon, can't let somethin' he said get you down. 'Sides, you know you can talk to me if you need to."
Pilot only nodded again, "I know…I just…I don't want to seem like I'm dependant or anything like that. Maybe I should learn to handle things myself.."
Jazz turned Pilot to face him, his hands on his shoulders, "Pilot, I'll never think you're too dependant. Sometimes you just need somebody to talk to. We all do. Don't take what SP says to spark. He talks big but he's all bark an' no bite. Don't be afraid to come to me if you need to. I'll look after you, Pilot. Always have always will."
Pilot smiled, once again Jazz had helped him out. Even told him flat out he's not too dependant. That gave Pilot a sense of relief. He's glad to always have Jazz around.
"Thanks, Jazz."
