Deepest shadow

Chapter 1: the dream

Kumo's eyes shot open at the sound of his alarm. He rolled over and slammed his clenched fist on his alarm clock. The howling stopped. As he rolled back into bed, he paused. The alarm clock read two thirty a.m. he paused, then shrugged it off and rolled back into bed... and fell. He fell into a deep darkness, so thick he could feel it, pressing in on his skin. He was so surprised that he didn't even cry out. He just fell. Then he stopped. He was suspended in darkness. The shadows where like water. He couldn't breathe. Then he heard an unspeakably loud whisper, a voice that was both terrible and beautiful, that weaved it song through every atom of kumos being. I will destroy the chosen. It whispered. I will return...

Kumo shot up in his bed. He was soaked with sweat.

Just a dream, he assured himself. He lay down. He tried to rest. He stayed up until morning.

The clanging bell rang. Kumo shot out of his desk, scooped up his books, and ran towards the door. As he tore down the hallway, he heard a familiar voice.

"Hey kumo, wait up!" jett yelled. Kumo turned around. He saw jett, his best friend, running towards him. He looked as he always did: jeans, green t-shirt, short, curly hair that looked like its been caught in the in the gears of a meat grinder, and a huge smile.

"Where are you running off to?" he asked kumo.

"Im going home." he replied, " Cole called to say he was coming over."

"What! Seriously?" jett exclaimed

"Yeah" kumo replied. He liked jett, but his boundless energy could be irritating some times. Especially when he babbled on about how lucky kumo was to have such an awesome older brother.

"Hey kumo, can I come over?" jett inquired

Kumo looked over at jett.

"Are you asking because you want to come or because Cole is gonna be there?"

"Uhhh…."

"That's what I thought" kumo gave jett his best annoyed look, then smiled

"Of course you can come over."

"yesssss!" jett pumped his fist, then said

"so, do you think the others will be there?"

"Don't push it..." kumo warned. As he walked with his friend, his dream surfaced up in his mind. Just a dream. He assured himself. Pushing that down, he began talking with jett, but the dream stayed in the back of his mind the whole long walk home...

The shadow waited. He could feel the boys fear. This was good. The shadow watched. He could feel his captor's son worry. This too was good. The shadow learned. It learned because it was chaos, and chaos had to adapt it watched because it had to, making sure everything went according to plan. It waited because it was imprisoned. But the shadow was also chaos. And chaos does not like to be immobile...
