I had an idea like this for a while, and I originally was going to write multi-chapter fanfictions instead, but I thought a oneshot would be easier (and I have a lot of other projects, so….)
The idea came from what if Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue was connected to Pokemon Mystery Dugeon Explorers of Time/Space/Sky.
The small seaside town bustled with life, many of the inhabitants running here and there on errands or just to chat with the shopkeepers. The town reminded Grovyle of the one he had lived in, a small village far, far away. Sometimes he wondered how his friends there were doing.
He and his partner had come to collect the Time Gears so they could prevent the Dialga turning into its Primal form. He had heard nothing from her since that storm some time ago.
He watched as a Riolu and an Eevee ran past, the two small Pokemon laughing. They both wore the bandanas that signified they were members of a guild. He smiled at the memory of when, he too, had been part of a Rescue Team all those years ago when he was still a Treecko. The team hadn't lasted very long, and all that was left of it was Magneton and Absol.
"Riley, wait!" the Eevee shouted. She stumbled over her bag and tripped.
The Riolu ran back to her, "Rune!"
Grovyle frowned and shook his head. No, it couldn't be. She had just been named after the one that saved the world from the meteorite –recent news in this time, older news in his time.
A small crowd gathered, including the two Kecleon brothers; which Grovyle had at first mistaken for the two that he knew. The Eevee's ears flopped as she avoided eye contact, shuffling her feet. The Riolu turned to everyone, "She's okay," he put an arm around her, "She's the leader of Team Vanguard!"
So the Eevee had even used the old team name…. It was unlikely anyone here knew the former Team Vanguard's leader had been an Eevee, his partner, also named Rune. And even fewer knew what Rune really was: a human.
Grovyle watched as the two small Pokemon slowly left, the Riolu staying by the Eevee's side. It was like the friendship he shared with Rune, and likely a bond many Pokemon shared, which was why they had decided to stop the planet's paralysis, even if it meant destroying their future.
