I Wish I Could Speak Whale

A day in Miami, a day at the beach
There wasn't a sound, a peep, or speech
It was evening this time, the sun gone down, whence
The sound of an animal shattered the silence.

A figure- he stood out so near the water
His hands on a pair of sunglasses, a martyr
His red hair, it glistened in the moonlight
As he stood and watched the waves that night.

A low moan was heard off the coast of the ocean
He smiled and made a small hand like motion
The woman came out and looked down the beach trail
As he softly muttered "I wish I could speak whale."

Yelina Salas gave him a strange look
She laid her hands softly on his coat.
Her lips curled into a wry sort of smile
She asked him so softly, "Why, Horatio? Why?"

Horatio Caine didn't move for a minute
He shrugged his shoulders in bewilderment.
"It's just a silly thought," he replied, grinning slightly
"I got it from a movie Ray's made me watch nightly."

The woman's voice laughed in his ears
A sound he listened to for dozens of years.
A strange thing was seen- it looked like a tail
Once again, he said, "I wish I could speak whale."

"Well, give it a try," Yelina encouraged.
"Nothing's keeping you from being discouraged."
The lieutenant laughed slightly and took a step forward
There wasn't much else where he could be lowered.

For his standards, his dignity, and even his pride.
None of that could be missed on that lonely night
Only him and Yelina, like anyone said
If Stetler was watching, oh boy, he was dead.

And he took a deep breath, shedding anything left
There was merely a raw open wound he'd detest
There wasn't a noise, no winds and/or gales
As he softly prayed out loud, "I hope I'll speak whale."

Horatio took a breath and sucked in his chest
Yelina gave a giggle and said "Do your best!"
And with his eyes fixed straight ahead
He let out a bellow that split open his head

He roared and he garbled, making many mistakes
But he didn't care, for it was love he'd make.
This is something so silly, so stupid, so strange
Yelina got down and laughed and bayed.

After two minutes of this strange babble
Horatio stopped wailing, looking to drabble.
He wanted to quip it totally off key
And then heard an answer from off in the sea

The whale- it moaned and it seemed to speak back
To Horatio's miserably failed attempt
And it seemed to agree with what he had said
With a flick of its tail, it was off to its 'bed.'

Yelina stood stunned at the response he had gotten
And managed to walk over to the one she loved often
She sat down next to him in the sand and saw
A smiling look on her brother-in-law.

She asked him, "Now, Horatio, what did you say?
Did you speak to him in a more personal way?"
The man looked up from his own lost thoughts
And cocked his head slightly as he spoke.

"Yelina, I'm happy I told him this.
All I want to do is share your bliss.
I love you, Yelina, and that was my tale.
I'm extremely glad now that I can speak whale."

"I wish I could speak whale." –Dory, Finding Nemo

Yep. What did you think of it? Feel free to drop a review, and thanks for reading! NO, I don't own Finding Nemo. Pixar does. I'm merely the loser who makes poems out of these things…
