The small town of T'ao Rukhta is located in a densely packed forest in the southern part of the island of Ramjah. It's northeast, east, southeast, and south borders are along the shore of the ocean. On its southwest and west lies an impassible canyon that is approximately one mile wide and nearly as deep. Finally, its only point of access by land is through a dense jungle lying to its northwest and north. In fact, that is the only practical access it has to the outside world because a thick coral reef lies 100 yards out at sea that is not passable by anything larger than a canoe, and a canoe would easily be swept out to sea by the powerful currents just offshore and be lost forever.
The town itself is surrounded by a medium-sized wooden wall on all sides. The wall has two openings: one near the water and one near the jungle. These openings are not gates, but just gaps that are guarded by the town guard. These walls are vital to the town's survival, though. For 25 long years the town has been plagued by a creature known to the villagers as "The Jungle Horror." The villagers, for the most part, believe that one large Jungle Horror exists that somehow controls or commands hordes of smaller ones, which they simply refer to as "spawn."
These creatures are shrouded in mystery as they move swiftly and appear only at night or when it is dark. The villagers speculate that this is why they stay in the jungle during the day, for the jungle is so densely packed that it can appear to be night. The best the villagers can describe the creatures is that they are slightly larger than monkeys.
Through this dark jungle lies the sister town of T'ao Rukhta, Tzaih-Byo Rukhta. It is much larger than T'ao Wannai and should have no problems fending off the Jungle Horror. For this reason, they do not understand why they have not sent them aid in all these years…
