If I had to sum him up in one paragraph - a short one at that - I'd say that Captain Jack Harkness was a man who needed to be liked and loved. A man who wanted, no needed to save mankind. He was passionate about what he did, to the point of obsession. He loved life and life loved him...I know I do. He is so damned easy to love. And, he's mine! There, one short paragraph. Jack would be proud.
