A/N - This takes place in the episode, Lizzie's Nightmares, where Matt is missing and the parents ask Lanny questions and get no response from him.
The Kid's Not Talkin'
Lanny's point of view.
"The kid's not talkin'." I heard my best friend's dad, Sam McGuire say to his wife Jo.
"Does he ever?" She whispered back to him.
I sat there on the couch, staring at them blankly, then a few seconds later, I turned my head and stared at the Gnome on the end-table. I studied it and never understood why Matt's dad likes them so much.
I studied it even more, then I saw the cop out of the corner of my eye. He was in-search for Matt because he never showed up for school today. Noticing me, he said, "You're right. Gnome's are weird." He then walked away with a cup of coffee in his hand.
I raised my eyebrows, impressed. He could understand me. Why couldn't Matt's parents? I had seen them, seconds ago, looking at each other puzzled.
I pondered. Matt understood me, and that one day his sister Lizzie somehow switched bodies with him, she did also.
My parents and teachers even understood me. Everybody I knew, did.
"Maybe he's just shy," I once heard Sam say some time ago.
I am definitely not shy.
