AN: Yay, first site submission! I wrote this a while ago...I'm totally mad about Erik the Phantom! The "you" in the poem can be interpreted differently. And yes, I'm not the greatest poet in the world, but when I try, it's only free verse and stuff like this climbs out of my brain. Enjoy!
How can I describe the joy
That crawls up my spine and
Ignites in my brain when I see
You
The most beautiful creature ever
Created.
You
Do not think so, but then again,
You
Have never seen yourself clearly.
When a self-image is viewed,
You
See only despair, disgust, demon,
An object, a thing, to be destroyed.
When I gaze upon the same visage,
I see hope, radiance, seraphim,
More of a man than most men ever are,
A person to be celebrated and loved.
You
Choose to ignore the God-given gift
That has been bestowed upon the chosen
A gift that normalities may never possess
But all I can focus on is that gift,
On shaping my own variation and knowing
That my gift can never be as fine-tuned as yours.
You
Believe that no one could ever love someone like
Yourself, that a monster has no real chance at
Happiness and love.
I disagree. If
You
Would only look beyond the outward appearance
And concentrate on the inner contents,
You
Would discover how many women consider themselves
Lucky to know
You.
Beneath your ugliness is a mask of stunning collectedness.
You
Have all of us running like mice in a maze,
Forever scurrying to find that peanut but we are not allowed
To have it.
You
Won't let us.
You
Are in the same maze, and we your companions will not
Allow a chance for yourself to reach the prize before us.
Suffer with us, but know that there will always be one
Who considers
You
Beautiful beyond compare
And would do anything to gain your love.
Please review? Please be nice? Thank you!
