--
It was raining.
It was always raining lately.
Matt Murdock, the man known as Daredevil, stood near his balcony doors, listening to the thunder from outside. The coffee mug in his hand was long forgotten, his thoughts elsewhere.
He would be arriving soon.
Matt knew he would be.
As if on cue, Matt heard a knock on the door and turned just slightly.
"It's open." With those words, the door cracked open and a slim figure slipped inside, the door shutting with a soft click. Turning around completely, Matt set his mug down on one of the end tables and slowly moved towards the man, listening for any sounds; any sounds of the pain he knew was there.
"Sorry…I just…I didn't know where else to go…." The man stammered, a sob bubbling behind his words. Matt reached the other and his hands rested on the man's shoulders, squeezing gently.
"It's alright Pete." He said softly.
Like everyone else in the city, he had heard what had gone on that day.
He had heard about the fight…about the death.
A choked sob escaped Pete and he slumped forward against Matt, his walls crashing down. For the first time since it had happened, he didn't have to be Spider-man. He could be Peter Parker; a man torn apart by the Green Goblin.
Matt's own eyes closed and his arms slid around his long-time friend's shoulders, holding him close.
"It'll be alright Pete. It will be."
