Harry Potter and the Dumbledore Revolution

Chapter 1: Uncomfortable Happiness

It was all darkness and silence. A lanky boy with untidy hair, clad in pyjamas, lay on his bed, silent. The snow-white owl in the cage nearby was asleep, her feathers fluttering in the wind that was blowing from the open window. The moon was hidden behind clusters of grey clouds drifting across the night sky. It was one in the morning, but he couldn't sleep.

The boy was Harry Potter. His parents died under Lord Voldemort's curse, but their love saved the boy from his death (he now lived with his uncle and aunt), but the curse left a lightning scar on his head, while Voldemort, with few powers left, fled. However, recently he had risen again, with a pack of followers called the Death Eaters. Whenever Harry's scar ached, it meant that Voldemort was angry or excited. Sometimes, Harry might even witness what Voldemort was doing in his dreams.

But it didn't happen. His scar did not ache; he did not have nightmares of Voldemort plotting murders, nothing.

Nothing? Impossible, thought Harry. He tossed and turned in bed. Something is amiss.

In 10 Privet Drive lived a family called the Dursleys. To Harry, Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Dudley was the worst pack of Muggles (non-magic people) he had ever met. Anyway, Harry was a wizard attending lessons in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; after spending his summer vacation with them, he was going to be in the seventh year.

His sixth year in school had been rather boring. He had often been detained by the Potions Master, Severus Snape, for being "inattentive in class and never handing in homework on time". Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley were Harry's classmates and sidekicks, but they had been quarreling over trivial matters for the whole year. Harry was also a Seeker in Quidditch and his job was to catch the Golden Snitch, but he only won once. Moreover, news reports stated that schools collapsed and many died due to the Earthquake, probably conjured by Voldemort, last year. That meant that students from other schools were going to be students of Hogwarts. Actually, the sixth year was the worst year in Hogwarts.

The summer vacation was rather delighting this year. The Dursleys were rather afraid of him as Harry once turned Dudley their son into a housefly during their quarrels using his wand. The family was then in frenzy; they tried not to kill any fly they saw in case it was their son. The Ministry of Magic was too frenzied; they slapped Harry with a warning letter telling him not to do that again (it was his third time of using magic illegally in the muggle areas) and some wizards in Muggle clothing (after vain attempts to look for their son) helped Dudley return to his human form.

His birthday had been very pleasant too. Ronald Weasley's mother, Molly Weasley had knitted a large red jumper for him, while Ron bought a comic book ("The Snitch Chaser"). Hermione was a Muggle-born witch whose parents were dentists, and this brainy girl gave him magical sugar free bubble gums that could be blown into any shape you wished. Hagrid, the school's keeper, gave him a humongous chocolate cake with peach icing. Yuk. (All these were sent by owl post.)

However, the vacation was so enjoyable and happy that Harry started to worry. Was Voldemort secretly plotting a horrible surprise for him? I don't know.

(This chapter sounds abrupt, huh? I never like writing about the holidays, and I want to spend more time on writing what happened in school.)
