September 11th 2001 is the day I will never forget. My cousin, Bo, and me were working outside working on the General Lee listening to the radio when my other cousin Daisy came running out hysterical.
"Luke, come here I think you should see this," she said running back inside.
Thinking it was nothing I went inside anyway only to find her turn the volume up on the TV.I could not believe it; there in front of me was the Twin Towers coming down because of a plane. Tears began to form in my eyes as I watched them fall. I listened to the names of people who were on that plane and realized that my marine buddy, Jake Wellington, was on that plane. I felt the tears run down my face, which hadn't happened since Uncle Jesse died. Daisy and Bo wrapped me in a hug as I cried and cried.
"We're so sorry Luke," was what they said to me that night.
A few nights later LTC Butler who said that they want me at Camp Shelby, in uniform, with my family, called me. He said we were going to have a funeral not just for Jack, but also for those on the plane and in the building. On Thursday we showed up at Washington DC and met up with some of my marine buddies. While we were getting back in the past General Brown got up and spoke.
"The 9-11 attack is a complete shock to us all, and killed millions of people our good friend Jake was one of them."
That was the first time I ever saw him cry, but I will never forget that day for as long as I live. They laid Jack to rest September 13th at the memorial and he was given the Purple Heart. The very next day a meeting was called and there I fond out I was to go back to war because of the terrorists attack. My family wasn't too happy about that, but when the Colonel gives an order that's an order. I was gone for a year and ended up being a P.O.W. I tell ya when I got home people were all over me I didn't even have time to think. While I was out in the field in Nam and Iraq I learned something that war is pure hell. As I write this I am hoping you understand how important this is and that millions of soldiers are dying everyday out there with pride. Course that ain't all I learned. I learned that in Hazzard I'm just a country boy, but in Iraq I am an American Soldier. And I am proud to serve my country.

AN: I wrote this to honor those at war and to those people in the 9-11 attack. I also wanted to honor my mom and step-dad, who are both in the military. I love you guys and I just want to say that I wrote this with pride in my heart. God bless y'all.
