Milda was sitting in a rocking chair, knitting a scarf for her brother on one of the two days her life would change forever. The second day would come quicker than she imagined. She was nearly finished with her project when a knock came on the door. She silently got up and just as she was about to answer the door, her brother jumped in front of her, stuck out his tongue, and opened the front door. Milda rolled her eyes at her brother's child-like nature.

Walking into their house, was the most beautiful man Milda had ever seen. He had perfect porcelain skin, light blue eyes, and a blond mane. His robes boasted of regal heritage, and his smile seemed to be most sly. A feeling of doom came into the air, Milda did not like this stranger in the least bit. He glanced to her brother and asked for him to bring their father. But before Algis could go and call for him, he came. Milda and Algis's father looked at the stranger and smiled at his familiarity.

"My old friend," he exclaimed wrapping his arms around the handsome stranger. The stranger seemed a bit taken back at first, but then wrapped his strong arms around Milda's father.

"My dear friend, Arturas Welczek, how have you been all these years?" the man said letting go of Arturas.

"Splendid, just splendid! I have wed and had children, but soon after my son was born I became widowed. Even though the passing of my wife greatly saddened me, I have been keeping up with my work!" Mr. Welczek said, "Children, come here and say hello to my friend Lord Niklaus."

Algis bowed and introduced himself, but Milda simply gave Niklaus a most curious look. Niklaus looked at her and did just the same. They went on in that trance until Mr. Welczek cleared his throat.

"My name is Milda," she said simply.

"Pleasure," Niklaus replied.

"Come, Niklaus, I must show you what I've been working on," Mr. Welczek said, beginning to lead him down into his "laboratory".

Niklaus followed him but not until he took one last look at Milda. It wasn't a curious look, no, it was one of a deep emotion. Milda thought it to be one of lust, but she thought she was just looking too much into it, then again it was so intense that it could've been of any strong emotion, even hatred.

Algis and Milda went to bed before their father emerged from the basement and before they could say good-bye to the strange man, Lord Niklaus. Niklaus gave Milda such an uneasy feeling that she was ecstatic to see her father alive and well the next morning. When she came downstairs, her brother and father were sitting in the kitchen, beaming.

"Oh, Milda! Father has great news! Father tell her!" Algis exclaimed.

"Milda, I have found the secret to an everlasting life," he proudly stated.

And from that day on Milda's life was changed forever.
