New York…it sure has changed from the last time I was here Selene thought as she stood on top of a multi-storey building, taking in the City That Never Sleeps. The bright lights… the hustle and bustle of people and cars…it was good to be back. Maybe I should stop by the Statue of Liberty for old times sake she thought. The human-vamp hybrid nodded. Yeah, that's what she'll do. She turned and started toward the edge of the roof. Without breaking her stride she leapt over the gap, landing lightly on the other roof. Selene carried on this way for a few blocks until her keen hearing picked up the sounds of fighting. She followed it until she came across a man wearing a hooded red kimono style robe fighting several others who looked identical. Selene crouched down watching the battle carefully. She wasn't one for interfering but she would step in if it looked like the kimono man needed help.

And it wasn't long before that happened with the kimono man getting knocked into a shopping trolley. Selene leapt down from the roof and stood firmly in front of him. "Human move out of the way of the one that is a mutant or be shot by Kraang", the suited man ordered.

"Well, I would…except for one small thing… I'm not human", Selene said, her eyes flashing blue, her canines extending down into pointy fangs. She rushed at the Kraang, tackling him over. Selene hit him once, frowning when she felt metal under her fist. She also couldn't hear a heartbeat. Instead she heard sounds of…machinery? Selene tore the Kraang's head off to reveal that it was a robot. "That's new", she murmured tossing the head aside. Selene stood up and turned to the kimono man with every intention of asking him if he was alright. However, the words got stuck in her throat when she saw that he wasn't a man at all but a giant rat! So that's what the Kraang meant by 'mutant' she thought.

The hybrid quickly pulled herself together. "Are you alright?" she asked.

"I am fine", the mutant replied "thank you for helping me. Not many would have".

"Well, I'm not like most people. Like yourself, I'm different", Selene said. She held out her hand "I'm Selene".

"Yoshi", the mutant said shaking her hand. The hybrid noted that he had four fingers but didn't comment. It wasn't her place to remark on his appearance when she was half human, half vampire.

"Pleasure to meet you Yoshi…" her ears picked up four sets of heartbeats coming from inside the shopping trolley "and your four companions. Infants if I'm not mistaken".

"How do you know that?" Yoshi asked instantly becoming defensive.

"I have heightened senses. I can hear their heart's beating", Selene quickly explained. Yoshi relaxed at her answer. For a moment he thought she'd been working with these robot beings, coming in to 'help' him and the turtles as a way to earn their trust only to betray them at a later date. He went over to the shopping trolley and opened up the box, showing Selene the four infants inside.

The blackette smiled down at them. "They're adorable", she said softly. She looked up at Yoshi "I know we've only just met but I would like to help you and your children. I know a place where you five will be safe from those things…where your children can grow up without having to be afraid of getting caught".

"I appreciate the help", Yoshi said. He needed all he could get if he was to safely raise the four turtles in a world that wasn't exactly safe for those who weren't entirely human.

"Ok then", Selene said. She led him to the subway and after walking through tunnel after tunnel, they eventually arrived at an empty subway station. "This place was abandoned long ago", Selene explained "I used to come here when I needed a safe place to hide".

Yoshi took in the place and nodded. Yes, this was the perfect place to raise the turtles. "Thank you for this Selene", he said gratefully.

"No problem", Selene said. She'd planned to leave as soon as Yoshi and the turtles were settled in their new home. However, the infants seemed to have taken a liking to her so she decided to stay…at least for a little while.

Over in Manhattan General, Kirby and Rebecca were looking down at their two newborn daughters as they slumbered in their shared hospital crib. "I'm not sure if we should go through with this", Rebecca said "separating them…"

"Is for the best", Kirby gently cut in "it'll keep them both safe".

Rebecca sighed "I know. Its just…what if they find out? They'll never forgive us".

Kirby placed a hand on his wife's shoulder "we'll deal with it when the time comes", he said and Rebecca nodded. She reached into the crib and brushed back some of her daughter's blonde hair.

"I'm so sorry Emily", she said quietly "daddy and I will always love you".
