Every muscle in his body screams of pain. He wanted nothing more but to go home and feel the warmth of his wife's touch. It had always been like this since the moment he had to go and take part on all those raids and killings that the Dark Lord wants them to do. Even though he wanted nothing but to just stay in the shadows and do the planning, he had no choice as the Order becomes persistent in killing off most of their members as well. That's why they had to target the blood traitors aside from the mudbloods.

William apparated inside their house finally after a long night of taunting and watching his brothers torture then kill people who they even once sat in class with. To say he's exhausted was an understatement, he was beyond fatigued both in body and mind. He looked around the living room where she sometimes wait for him but she wasn't there. Unbuttoning his shirt, he made his way to their shared room. It was almost morning and he saw her sitting in front of her vanity mirror brushing her hair. For a minute, he leaned at the door sill just admiring her reflection then saw her smile back at his image.

Finally, she stopped what she was doing and stood up, ready to walk over to him. He took the first step while taking off his shirt and meet her half way.

"Hello…" He said then enveloped her in his arms while burying his face on her neck as he leaned down. "You smell wonderful."

He felt her hug him back tightly and couldn't be any happier finally away from all those blood and screams that still haunts him even in his sleep.

"I have news for you…" She murmured in his ears.

"What is it?" He finally released but looked into her eyes while backing up till the back of his knees hit the bed. He led her till he sits and she was standing in front of him. Looking up at her, William feels lucky. She was the woman he never thought he'll have and spend the rest of his life but it happened and he guess for the best. A small smile is playing in the corner of her lips and it only piqued William's curiosity more.

"You're going to be a father…" She whispered with happiness clearly reflected in her eyes.

As the words sunk in his mind it's like someone dunk a pail of cold water on his head. He feels his blood draining from his face and he let go of his hold on her.

"I…why now?" He knows that's a stupid thing to ask and he immediately wanted to take those words back as he saw her face fell. She was about to turn away but he stopped her and pulled her down to him. "Hey come here…"

He saw a tear fell to her cheek as he maneuvered both of them to lie on the bed so he wiped it off immediately. "Don't cry…it's not that I'm not happy about this news. I wanted nothing but to be a father to our child, but…it's too early…there's still war outside." William sighed. "I'm sorry, dear." He wanted to erase the disappointment he's feeling but he can't shake it off. Instead he pulled her closer and envelop her into an embrace once again.

If only there's no war, if only he doesn't witness death everyday, this news could have been the best thing he'd heard all his life.
