I leaned back into my seat, squeezing my eyelids over my eyes. I was too worried and scared to sleep, so I just faked it in hopes of submerging into unconsciousness. It had been less than an hour since we left my house, but it felt like years. I didn't even think of the gaping wound in my chest as I obsessed over Edward, asking the Volturi to kill him.

I gave up entirely on sleep then, and turned to look at Alice. She was leaning down with her eyes shut, massaging her temples slowly. She must have been concentrating very hard. Suddenly, her eyes popped open and she sat up straight. I stiffened, thinking of the Volturi. She shook her head, looking around.

"Did you hear that?" she asked, glancing at me.

"No," I answered, confused. "What?"

"Hold on," she said, closing her eyes. After a moment, she opened them again and turned to me, fear in her eyes. I was afraid, too. She fumbled with her seatbelt, and that scared me more than anything. I had never seen a vampire fumble with anything, ever.

"Alice, what is it?" I asked frantically. She finally unbuckled and stood up. The passengers stared at her.

"Ma'am," began a flight attendant, advancing towards her, "The seatbelt sign-"

"SNAKE!!!" screamed Alice.
