The sweet smell was extremely strong, someone probably had a horrible accident. The urge to leave my patient took over me, but I wouldn't leave her side unless the others absolutely needed me. I heard the hurried footsteps as someone entered the room.

"Carlisle," Sara's voice broke me from my trance, "Please, we need to hurry, it's an emergency!" Even though her blonde hair had broken from it's bun from running and was swinging in her face, I could tell who it was, she had some of the sweetest smelling blood of the people I worked with. Sara was also the calmest of the nurses at the hospital, if she was upset something was horribly wrong.

"Lead the way," she turned on her heel and half ran down the hallway. I turned to my tiny patient and it was plain that she too was frightened. She was chewing on her fingernails and her green eyes were wide and frantic.

"Dr. Cullen, what's goin' on?" Poor Ginger, she was only 6, she wouldn't understand why my hair was on end from the smell of blood. I must have looked terrifying to her, I could feel my nostrils flairing from the scent. I hated to leave Ginger with the idea of me as monster in her head, so I quickly collected myself. Ginger was one of the sweetest of my patients, not that any of them (and their mothers) weren't sweet around me.

"Ginger, honey, there's been an accident and I have to go help, I'm going to let Nurse Terry take care of you today... okay?" She quietly nodded her head and it was obvious that she didn't want me to leave her, the same look was on her mother's face. Ginger's mother said something about if I absolutely had to leave, but I was already half way out the door.

Sara had gotten farther than I thought, but even though she wasn't in sight I didn't need help finding my way. The sticky aroma was strong enough that I could smell my way. Foward, left, left, past the waiting room, right, through this door, down these stairs, right... and... bingo.

The room was swarming with nurses and docters doing this and that, trying to help the injured victim. The lighting was bright and the mint green walls were only magnifying it. I ordered most of the watching nurses away and they obediantly followed my request. I went to grab some wipes to clean up the blood. "Damn. Where are they?" The wipes the hospital normally had ready to use were no where in sight.

"Ahh!"

The other nurses that were still there had already done what I had planned to do, the alcohol was burning at the open wounds. But it was of no consiquence, there was plenty that still needed doing. Inwardly cursing myself for ordering away the eager to help nurses I grabbed the bandages to wrap up any area that was bleading. Some of the nurses who had been wiping blood ran out of towels and ran to grab more.

I almost dropped the equipment I was holding.
