Sansa POV
I tell myself it'll be ok, that today will be different. Joffery will be in a good mood and all will be well. He'll not be angered by anyone and no one will get in his way. I tell myself this, even though I know it's a lie. I swallow away the cry that wants to escape my lips, wiping the tears away I rinse my face with ice cold water. There was an insistent pounding at the door and I wanted to scream at whoever was on the other side to fuck off and that I wasn't finished. Drying my face, I stared at my reflection, I took another deep breath, I would have to fix my makeup in my room. unlocking the door, I was met with the scowling sleep-deprived face of Robb, he half shoved me out of the way and I made my way hastily back to my room… he hadn't stopped to ask why I had been crying, then again, he doesn't care he was too far gone and lovesick with his long-time girlfriend Talisa. I shuffled into my shared bedroom. Arya was still dead asleep… she never cared about her appearance she didn't have to, she was a star athlete and most of the time could get away with not bothering whatsoever. Standing at my vanity I began the laborious task of covering my face with a million products that personally before starting to date Joffery I would have never cared to use. Satisfied with the end product I looked down at my outfit just as Arya fell out of bed and onto the floor still out cold, approaching her I nudged her gently and she groaned.
"Careful, the bruise from softball." Her mouth opening in a yawn.
"How are you still sleepy?" Tilting my head
She didn't respond, instead choosing to climb back into bed and resuming to sleep. Hearing the honk outside I swallowed and checked over my appearance once more before grabbing my bag and all the necessities that came with it. Waving everyone goodbye, I stepped out of the house and my eyes directed me to the black Cadillac, standing right in front of it was Joffery Lannister. It was a surprise, to say the least, why was he driving his Cadillac and not any of his more expensive showier cars?
The Lannister family were anything but ordinary, they owned the town, probably even the entire city for all I cared and, in more ways, than one, their fortune came from the history the family had as influential bankers and stock market brokers… add to that the merger of the Lannister family to the notoriously infamous Baratheon family and they basically owned us all, and that wasn't to say my family was anything but ordinary. My own family as well as the Baratheon family we were once the leading innovators of the technological and pharmaceutical world but after the merger… we were left on our own and sure we were still up there with the likes of it, but personally I believe that Stark Industries the one that generations upon generations of Starks had fought for and built from our own blood, sweat and tears was done for, and it was only a matter of time before the worse thing in the world could happen… and that would be to sell out to none other than the –
"What are you a grandma? Hurry up." Joffery grunted
Hurrying down the stairs and to his car, I gave him a brief peck on the cheek before climbing into the passenger seat, I was trying to hide the anxiety that was beginning to erupt inside my head. He started the engine and kept his eyes on the road, how I longed for any noise but the sound of a well-maintained Cadillac engine between us, Joffery hated the radio because listening to the radio meant listening to his uncle Jaime or his less than liked uncle Tyrion yap on and on about how the family business was going. I kept my hands on my lap, it didn't mean well if I tried to start a conversation with Joffery, of all people he was the one I feared most.
"You best behave, I do not want to be embarrassed. I do not care if it is your friend Margaery's birthday today. I have an important physics test and I will not hesitate to hit you if I do not do well. Am I understood."
I wanted to nod more than anything in the world but instead, the trained response from my lips spilled out.
"Yes, Joffery."
We remained silent the rest of the way to school, we drove past the many advertisements that featured any number of his family members. Becoming bored quickly of the same signs and pictures everywhere I returned my focus to my hands, where on my right ring finger rested my promise ring, a ring that Joffery had given me months ago after we celebrated our second year of being together, it was for the record one of the few nice gestures amongst so many that Joffery had decided upon. It was a simple gold band with a single white opal the size of a pinhead, and whilst I wished it was showier I understood for the most part that us being together was an agreement between my father as well as his own. If things were different and I hadn't been signed off like some animal, Joffery would have probably by now moved onto the likes of Margaery Tyrell.
Margaery and I were incredibly close, like sisters really and she had sworn to protect me from Joffery, even though her efforts were rather pointless, and there had been times that she had gotten onto Joffrey's nerves so very badly that I was the one to pay the price, talk about hiding bruises the sizes of basketballs from your family members let's just say I spent a small fortune on foundation and concealer to cover those bruises that lasted more than three months. It was also clear to everyone including myself that Joffery was often amused more so by the company of Margaery than my own, if not for the ring that promised me to him, he would be off probably fucking her by now.
Margaery was the heiress to the Tyrell empire and her life was lavish, to say the least, the Tyrell's were the only force that threatened the Lannister empire… it was a good thing I was such good friends with Margaery who could at a moment's notice as she had promised ruin the Lannister line by forcing her father to cut off all ties… to do that would cause the biggest economic disaster the world had yet to witness.
We pulled into school, I didn't bother to wait for Joffery to open the car door, all those kinds of pleasantries died after the first month of us being the 'it' couple of the school, scanning the crowd of teens that were littered around the front courtyard of the school I finally felt a sense of relief when I saw Margaery's waving hand, stepping towards them I felt Joffrey's hand grip mine and I lowered my gaze as he whispered.
"Remember to be on your best behaviour."
I waited for his grip to loosen before continuing to approach the rest of the group, the frown on Margaery's face was evident but was wiped as soon as I moved closer into the group, offering my arms out in a hug like gesture.
"Happy birthday!" keeping my voice hushed so only she could hear.
"Did he hurt you at all." She spoke back just as quietly
"No."
We then let go of each other and she hooked my arm within her own. Joffery was nowhere to be seen. Seems he wasn't in the mood to interact with the rest of Margaery's group this morning.
"Why don't we go inside?" I suggested
"We will soon, I am just waiting for someone to arrive is all."
"Who?" my eyebrows raised
"You'll like him, don't worry."
"Him?"
We heard the rumble of a motorbike, it wasn't easy trying to ignore the sound of a Harley Davidson coming to park, next to Margaery's black BMW no doubt a birthday present from her brother Loras. The figure's face was hidden, Margaery broke away from our circle approaching the bike with ease, everyone was curious, we didn't know anyone who rode a bike much less one as intimidating as a Harley. The figure took off his helmet, I followed quickly in Margaery's footsteps to take a closer look at this figure who Margaery was in the midst's of hugging incredibly tightly. I wanted to inquire more but the sounds of a loud bell ruined my chance.
Margaery turned to face me after hugging and chatting to this mysterious figure who I had never seen before.
"I'll see you in History. Go on."
I nodded before making my way like the rest of our group into the main building of the school. Who was he? Why was he so freakishly tall? What did he mean to Margaery? Why had she never mentioned a guy who looked like him? All these questions were unanswered and I was keen to understand why she had decided not to tell me of all people.
Aiden POV
Earlier that morning
"Aiden! Aiden… Aiden!"
My mother's raspy scream echoed through the flat like a doom's day alarm going off. Climbing out of bed hastily I grabbed a pair of boxer's shorts and pulled them on before proceeding to half run-jog into my mother's bedroom. She coughed again and I moved quickly into the bathroom to grab her a glass of water, returning to her side I held the glass out to her, which she took with trembling hands.
"First day back." She rasped
"Yes, ma. Class starts in an hour. Will you be ok?"
"Well, the carer will be here soon, what's her name."
"Mae." I reminded her
"Yes, Mae."
It had only been three months since the accident that changed my mother's life forever, forcing us to return to this nightmare of a city, which I had squarely objected against but for the worst part of a four-hour argument had to allow… the facilities my mother needed were here and not in the town we had moved to, to get away from all the noise of a big bustling city like fucking New York.
Before the accident, my mother was the very definition of involved, she had been a primary school teacher for special needs kids and she had so much more to give, all it had taken was a faulty light, slippery tile floors and stairs for my mother to lose everything she held dear, with a catastrophic brain injury that affected her memory, she was now reliant on carers like Mae, add to that a failing immune system and what more could a nineteen year old like myself want? I was heading to senior year at a school that I had left but two years ago, because my mother had found a better job in a different state altogether. Snapping out of my thoughts, I looked at her closely, the spark in her eye had yet to diminish, she still had all the memories of old, she just couldn't really remember how to make any new ones.
"Is your sister awake yet?" she asked
"I don't know…"
"You best wake her up, and remember… what they don't know won't hurt you. Keep your abilities in check. Remember to remind…"
Her eyes began to close and I sighed… this was normal after the accident, mother was also diagnosed with narcolepsy. I tucked her in properly before kissing her forehead. Leaving her bedroom door ajar, I made my way to my sister's room. Knocking before entering I covered my eyes and cringed at how bright the room was, Olive laid unconscious in the centre of the room, seemingly having had another uncontrolled attack… I sighed, making sure not to blind myself by looking at the light she was producing unconsciously tapping her shoulder before shaking her softly into consciousness, her eyes opened and the light shards she had accidentally created whilst asleep dimmed and disappeared. Her voice was soft, she nearly spoke louder than a whisper.
"Again?"
I nodded, she sat up and wrapped her arms around me, she was still learning to control her abilities, like myself we both lived with a dirty secret… we were for the most part known as mutants or metahumans depending on how you'd like to see it. I knew that asides Olive the only other person with any in human abilities was Margaery but her ability was easy to hide, Olive and I's? Not so much. Olive was my adopted sister not that it felt like it, she was a complete albino and it was fitting that her abilities had something to do with light.
"Come on, get ready for school I'll drop you off."
"Ok." She smiled
I shut her bedroom door and proceeded to check my phone for any messages, none so far and no emails, thank the lord. Returning to my own room I changed into my normal day to day attire, leather jacket, jeans and a white shirt. Simple yet effective. Stepping out of the room and walking past Mae who gave me a small smile I grabbed an apple on the way out of the house, I had rarely any time to eat anything properly… an apple would have to do for now. Olive soon joined me on my Harley, her arms wrapping around me, revving the engine not once, not twice but three times – mostly to annoy the neighbours, we sped down and out of the street.
Dropping Olive off, she kissed my cheek.
"Call me if you think your abilities are going to make an appearance."
"Ok. Bye!"
Before approaching the school, it had only been two years but that was long enough for any normal city dweller to forget, not that it was easy to forget Olive's appearance. Concentrating on the road ahead, I felt the vibration of my phone and knew without having to check that Margaery was wondering where the hell I was. Speeding towards the direction of the school I let myself zone out till keeping an awareness of my surroundings around me.
Parking my bike, I could hear the sound of stilettos approaching, taking my helmet off, the warmth and pull of Margaery brought a smile to my face. Climbing off the bike and putting my helmet against my bike I pocketed my keys just as she pulled me into a tight hug, she looked up at me and smiled.
"Welcome back Aiden."
"Your abilities," I whispered
She blushed before closing her eyes and concentrating on taking back the pull that came with life manipulation. Another female, naturally taller than Margaery approached, her crimson red hair was tied into a messy braid and her makeup was done almost to perfection, who was this female? She smelt of three things, roses, tears and apples. I wanted to greet her but our moment to speak was cut short as the bell rang and Margaery implored for this female named Sansa to go to class and that she'd be there soon.
