A/N - My first fic so be kind. Probably only a one-shot. Please R&R. This is LorelaiJason, what should have happened in 'A Family Matter' (4.12).
Disclaimer: I do not own Gilmore Girls.
Five AM
"Hey, where's Grandpa tonight?" Rory asked.
"He's in Manhattan having dinner with clients. He just called. They're at some restaurant near Times Square. He said that Times Square just keeps getting cleaner and cleaner. They didn't stumble upon one prostitute the whole night." Emily replied.
"Oh yeah. I heard the Disney Company had them all killed." Lorelai quipped.
"What I don't understand is why Jason wouldn't make this trip instead."
"Oh. Well, he's maybe busy with his own thing."
"I know for a fact he wasn't. Richard said he took the whole morning off."
"Well, everyone deserves an occasional morning off."
"Richard never takes a morning off. He's up every day at five-thirty on the phone then it's out the door to the office. I bet Jason doesn't roll out of bed until eight."
"On the contrary – he gets up at five am every morning to be on the phone with clients."
"How would you know that? Why should I believe you?"
"Because… because I'm dating him! I know that kind of stuff," Lorelai blurted and immediately regretted it. "I- I have to go." Lorelai ran as fast as she could out of the room and locked herself in the study.
As soon as she left Rory said quietly, "It's true." Emily just stared, bewildered by the sudden confession. She soon snapped out of it and yelled after her daughter.
"Lorelai! Come out here right now!" She stormed off towards the study and banged on the door. "Lorelai! Are you in there?"
"No!"
"Come out right now."
"I- I don't want to!"
"Lorelai, this is not a matter to be talked about through the door."
"How about we just don't talk about it at all? That works!"
"Lorelai…"
"OK! Fine! I'll come out." As Lorelai walked out Emily beckoned to her.
"Living room." As they arrived Rory looked at them. "We should discuss this like mature adults."
"There's nothing much to discuss, we're dating, that's it."
"How long?"
"Uh… I don't know, four months?"
"Why did you keep it from me for that long?" Emily's tone was inquisitive and stern at the same time. She was playing mind games with Lorelai, so Lorelai decided to play back.
"Why should I have? It doesn't really concern you."
"Doesn't concern me!? Of course it does! He's your father's business partner, for goodness' sake!"
"You want to know why I did it? I did it to piss you off! Rory, we're leaving." With that she grabbed Rory and left her mother in a confused and angry daze. Outside she stopped dead.
"You okay? How are your motor skills?" Lorelai didn't move. "I'll drive."
