Inspired by the name of a certain ljcommunity, this is me, playing with that famous Ten/Rose phrase.
She Knows
The Doctor was standing on the roof when she found him.
"Oye," she said softly, and he turned to look at her. "This strikes a little familiar."
"Donna, Reguri's unconscious, that doesn't mean you can just leave her with the guards-"
"Nah, UNIT came to collect her. I left before they could see me. You alright?"
"Yeah," the Doctor said. He returned his gaze to the city. She could see the entire London skyline from here. She walked over to where he was standing at the ledge.
"You warned me that Reguri could change shape. Did- did you know that Reguri could turn into someone who's dead?"
"Well," he said, drawing out that one word, "death has nothing to do with it. It's memory. Some of her species have telepathic abilities; she was able to draw that particular form out of your head. And no, I didn't realize until then. Sorry."
"S'alright. Just weird, seeing Lance all of sudden like that. Wasn't expecting it."
"You alright?"
"Yeah."
"Sure?"
"Fine." She nodded, indicating their setting. "Day we first met."
"Yep, only-" he pointed to somewhere in the distance she couldn't distinguish, "over there."
She snorted but then turned somber. "That girl, that girl Regari changed into after Lance, the girl with blonde hair."
He didn't say anything, so she continued: "That was Rose."
"Yeah."
"She was pretty. I mean, she is pretty, wherever she is."
She saw the Doctor grin, just slightly. However, as soon as the smile appeared, it vanished, and he looked grim (it's wrong when he looks like that) once again.
"What is it?" she asked.
"It's just that she reminded me of something I meant to- something I tried to say to Rose. Something important I didn't get chance to-"
"That you loved, I mean, that you love her?"
He was quiet, staring out into the harsh skyline, giving a plain answer with silence.
She placed a reassuring hand on his back.
Then pushed him.
"Oh," Reguri said, transforming back into her natural form as she looked over the ledge to the Doctor's fast descending figure, "I'm sure she knows."
