The two cloaked figures stole into Kingdom Valley, using the shadows as cover. The last vestiges of summer trickled out of the land, and the gentle caress of autumn began to take hold, preparing the world for a harsh winter. The sun was setting rapidly as the taller of the two came to a halt. He was a good three feet taller than the other, who only stood about a meter tall. They came to a halt, each scanning the ravine for any signs of the body. The taller one motioned to his comrade, and they headed toward the pair of corpses. They each looked at a body, determining potential usefulness. The daemon corpse held no value, and the taller one dismembered it.
The short one looked over the body of the human. Heat signatures still present, so not dead long. He estimated about 3 hours. He tried to lift the body, but could not, as it was wedged between two boulders. Rigor mortis had set in. The taller one smashed the boulder, and lifted the body. Their mission accomplished, he began to leave. He turned to his comrade. The short one motioned for him to go.
As his partner left, the short one climbed up to the top of the ravine, and watched the setting sun. He grabbed the sword from a rock, retracted the blade, and placed it in a hidden pocket. He looked up at the sun, revealing two glowing red pupils set in black sclerae. His jaw, hardened steel, and the rest of his face, cold blue titanium.
E-1 Metal Sonic watched as the sun descended at last behind the mountains. Soon, he would have them. Soon, with the help of the human, he would become the most powerful robot ever to come off the production line. The water god would be key to this, but not without the Emeralds. If the stone tablets were half true, he would dominate the world in no time. He jumped down, fired his jets, and sped off towards the base where he had been conducting his work. If the notes were true, I would take at least three years to reconstruct him. But he could wait. Even if it meant that he might lose the god, he could not pass up this powerful pawn.
Metal Sonic, being a robot without a mouth, could not smile. But he would have, since everything was falling into place just nicely.
