Chapter 1: Prelude
Secret HYDRA Research Facility, 1943, 18:43.
It is the first day of Dietrich duty as science assistant at the HYDRA research facility. He was giving a promotion after perfecting the Infinity Serum, which when injected into a specimen slows down the age. Dietrich was greeted with his promotion with a party with his friends at the research facility. Now, whoever, it is quite a different mood. They have to test the Infinity Serum straight away. The base is on high alert, due to the fact that Captain America has been destroying facilities around Europe and Johann Schmidt wants this serum prepared before the launch. Luckily they have a test subject for human trials. An America soldier that fell off the train when they were attacking Arnim Zola. He had lost an arm from the fall and was pretty much dead. So HYDRA figured that they could use a test subject.
Dietrich entered the room where they kept the subject. Guards were placed on both sides of the door. "What is your name?" Dietrich asked politely. "James Barnes." James than spat at the scientist. A guard moved forward to restrain him. "Stand back from the subject sir." Dietrich then turned to James, "It's good that you remember your name. It really is." James looked confused. "What do you want? I will tell you nothing. Captain America will come for me! Just you wait!" James Barnes sounded exhausted. "What will you do to me?"
"Well. You are our test subject. I need to test a serum. Who knows maybe we will be able to use you." Dietrich pulled a needle and took some blood. "But first I need to see how much to age. So, I will need some blood, and some of your skin, maybe some hair as well."
"Why?"
"Because, I would need to see your age progression and if it is the same after. It is very complicated stuff. But all you need to know is that this is for the good of HYDRA."
"HYDRA. By the time we finish this war HYDRA will be finished."
"I don't think so. How will they find this facility? It is always moving."
"What do you mean?"
"May I open a window? You might enjoy the view."
"Do I have a choice?"
"Of course. I will not keep away from you the only few that you can choose from." Dietrich opens the window and reveals that they are under water.
"Are we on a submarine?"
"Yes." Dietrich goes to his desk and puts the samples of blood in a device. He goes to James and scraps a bit of skin of his arm. Then he pulls a little bit of hair. He puts them in different devices. After a few minutes the results are back. "Okay, now I will inject you will the serum."
"Will it change me? Will I still be the same persona as before?"
"I have only tested it on chimps." He stuck it in the left arm. "But you will be very different after every scientist is done with you. But since you have been a rather pleasant specimen, I will see to getting to a replacement arm. We have some rather exciting plans for you!" Dietrich left the room and turned off the lights.
James could only see one thing. The window was still open. He just gazed into it for a while. He still believed that Captain America would find him, but deep down he doubted it.
