SUNFLOWER SEEDS
The supermarket was desolate, silent.
The reason for it's emptiness was that it was three in the morning.
Usually in Washington DC more people would be at the 24-hour supermarket, even at that time.
But not that night. that night there were only a few people shopping.
A retired dentist was one of them, picking out an anniversary card for his wife (he had forgotten until the last minute again.)
There was a mother of three, her headache making her desperate for paracetamol.
Then, there was Agent Scully.
She had been working so hard on the case, and she was so worried about Mulder's whereabouts , this had been her first chance to get groceries.
She made a mental list as she went down the aisles, picking up items from certain shelves as she passed.
Bread. Check.
Pasta. Check.
Bleach. Check.
Tampons. Check.
She of course, walked past the condom section, but she hesitated at the pregnancy tests.
It was impossible, she knew that she was barren. Yet she couldn't help wondering if she would even need the tampons, her period was extremely late.
But there was no time for wishful thinking.
I'm infertile- that's it. She reminded herself, before she got too carried away.
On the way to the checkout, she stopped, at the sunflower seeds.
Where is he? She thought desperately.
She picked up a bag. She didn't know why, to use as bait for him? She didn't even like them that much.
But she had to buy them. They gave her hope.
She could never believe in what he wanted her to believe in. But she knew she would always believe in him.
THE END
