COMPROMISING
Mulder's Apartment
"Mulder, we are not watching that movie" protested Scully, when she saw the film that Mulder was holding up.
"We are not watching Evolution! Even though David Duchovny is cute."
"ooh, cute." Mulder teased her. "Okay... planet of the apes"
"You're not convincing me, Mulder." warned Scully. "I agreed to stay here until I can get my locks changed, that does not mean I will agree to watch cliché sci-fi movies with you."
"okay, what's your movie of choice then"
"I don't know." she admitted.
"I'll go to the rental store and pick some up, you can order the pizza." he suggested.
"Not likely." countered Scully. "I don't even want to think about what you'd pick if I let you go alone. I'm coming with you, we can order when we get back."
Rental Store
"Come on Scully, I'm not about to sit through two hours of that."
"Yeah." she agreed"I don't particularly want to see it either.
She sighed.
"It's not looking good, is it? I'm going to look at the classics. NO wandering off to your usual branch of entertainment."
Mulder pretended to be shocked at the implication.
"Hey" the guy behind the counter whispered to him" Hey, you want to impress the wife tonight with your impeccable taste"
"She's not- she's- I mean, yeah, I guess I do." finished Mulder.
"Just think about what you know about her, and pick the first thing that comes to mind." he suggested. "It's always a winner. Unless you pick The Bride Of Frankenstein."
Mulder thought about this.
Scully, Scully, Scully...
Something scientific? Probably not, she didn't seem to want to think about work.
So nothing with aliens, obviously. Unless the lead was a sceptic, who happened to agree with her realistic theories.
A romance? A comedy? A romantic comedy? No.
Then he saw her walking back towards him, still empty handed. He knew immediately what she'd like.
He'd choose a film for Dana, not just for Scully. He reached up to get it from the top shelf.
"Hey Scully, what about this"
She looked at the cover, and smiled.
"It's perfect." she told him.
Mulder paid.
"Good choice." the guy said, and he gave Mulder a wink that clearly said, You're gonna get lucky tonight, buddy!
Scully couldn't help noticing it.
Mulder's Apartment.
Scully put the movie into the VCR, then she realised something.
"Doesn't this movie have UFO sightings in it" she asked him, suspiciously.
"May-be." said Mulder, as he picked up the phone to order the pizza. "But it also has that actor you like, the ugly one."
"He is not ugly" complained Scully. "But okay, fair compromise. Oh, and Mulder"
"What" he asked seriously. He finished dialling the number.
"Extra mushrooms." she reminded him, mischievously.
THE END
