Hermione sat in her usual contemplative silence, Hogwarts a History lay on her lap as she poured over it. She was staring disbelieving at the opened pages. After reading the book for what must have been the tenth time she had finally noticed. The revelation hit her like a train; she finally understood the founder's subliminal message. Everyone had been blind to it for ages. So there she sat, mind reeling at her discovery.
While Hermione was engrossed in her book her two friends watched from the other side. Ron cast a wary glance in her direction before turning to his friend.
"So what do you think she's found out this time?" Ron said in a hollow tone. Harry only sighed in response. It seemed that every time she read the book the two of them received a lecture. Silence resumed as the pair sat wondering what it was this time.
Suddenly Hermione's head shot up as she simultaneously closed the large book. Anticipating the situation, her two friends trudged over to her. She gave them a knowing look.
"I have discovered something", she began, "Something that will unite the Gryffindor and Slytherin houses."
She paused to look at the boy's expressions, Ron looked dumbfounded. Harry, on the other hand looked indifferent, after all stranger things had happened to him. Satisfied with the reactions Hermione continued.
"It has to do with the house colours", Hermione said.
Ron, over his shock, asked, "The colours? Are you mental?"
Hermione glared at him before launching right back into her explanation, "Red and green, silver and gold it is so obvious."
To the boys it was not obvious. Their minds began to wander at the possible meanings. Hermione was growing impatient.
"Put them together and you get Christmas!" She exclaimed, "Classic Christmas colours are red and green, and to top it off the Christmas carol "Silver and Gold". It seems that the founders were smarter than I thought."
"Uh, 'Mione do you think that's…" Harry trailed off wondering what to say.
Ron meanwhile was staring at his friend. All of a sudden, Ron had his greatest plan, grabbing Harry he dashed up to the dormitory without so much as a word to Hermione. Said girl remained where she stood still reveling in her discovery. That night Harry and Ron went to bed with less respect for the girls brain than they had ever had.
Just something silly.
