A/N: Hi everyone! By reader request, here is the Owen/Jack discussion from "My Idiot." If you haven't read that one, then the context is that this takes place immediately after Gwen walks out of the Hub at the end of Meat. There is one more story coming in this set. It's something I had been working on separately but since it fits, I'm going to release it as part of this. So stay tuned for more!
Disclaimer: I don`t own Torchwood. And I'm so broke that if you tried to sue me your lawyer would laugh.
Jack watched as Gwen crossed to Rhys, grabbed him and kissed him. She made sure they were standing right in the path of the CCTV, as if she was not so subtly flipping Jack off with their affection. He sat there, resting his head on his fingertips when he noticed a beer magically appear in front of him.
"You know my feelings on domestics in the office." Owen grabbed the chair on the other side of the desk and plopped down. "Now stop sulking because it's your fault anyways." Jack looked at him incredulously
"My fault? I didn't do anything!" He snatched the beer from the desk and took a sip.
"Exactly! She told you she was going to break the rules and you didn't do shit! You're the boss Captain. Not Cooper, YOU!" He waited for Jack to defend himself but it appeared the solider was waiting to hear all the charges before responding. "How many times has she messed up or ignored a direct order since she started? A lot. You can probably check, I'm sure Ianto's been keeping a list somewhere."
"You weren't that different when you started." Jack countered. Owen took a swig of beer before continuing.
"No but you held me responsible. When I fucked up, I did my penance and I fixed it. What do you ask of her? 'Be the heart Gwen, make us human.' Well I don't know what you consider your non-dying super shagging self to be, But newsflash, The rest of us ARE human. None of us are perfect and none of us are above the rules." He paused wondering if he should make his next argument or not. Owen figured if he was in for a penny he was in for a pound. "In addition to remembering that your staff are human beings you may also want to remember that those human beings tend to have feelings." He didn't think it was possible but Jack's eyes got even darker.
"I know that Owen." Jack glanced towards the CCTV of the Archives. Tosh was chatting with Ianto while the younger man filed. "But if we're on the subject, you aren't exactly Mr Sensitivity either." Owen followed Jack's gaze to the monitor and understood. It was a low blow but one he deserved.
"I've already said I'm not perfect. I Treat- People" he paused to let it sink in who he was referencing "badly but that's why I don't do the dating thing. It's one thing to be a shit to someone you like, it's another game entirely to be that way to someone you are with." Owen pointed at the screen "They deserve better than that." Jack nodded sadly
"They do. But, for some reason they want us." The doctor smirked, grabbed his beer and moved to leave. He paused at the door and turned back.
"Oh, and if you tell anyone those last bits I'll shoot you until you stay dead." Jack feigned shock.
"I am the pinnacle of discretion Dr Harper." Owen rolled his eyes and walked back to his desk.
"Immortal Prat!"
"Goodnight to you too Owen!"
