I was watching Rock-A-Doodle for the first time since I was six, and I realized that I could sympathize with the owls in a way. I don't like to be woken up early in the morning by loud singing either. So I made this ficlet for all us 'night owls' out there.
Discussions In My Room
This week staring Chanticleer, aka The King
There was lots of candy and chocolate all around. And there were cute guys all smiling at me. I was wearing a beautiful gown and one of those dainty little tiaras that all girls want to wear at some point. Everyone was bowing to me, and I opened my mouth to make some sort of decree-
"COCK-A-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoDLE!" sang out the horribly sunny and cheery voice of a rooster. A rooster that was not supposed to be in my room. I opened my bleary eyes and looked at the alarm clock sitting on my little dresser next to my room key and flash drive on my lanyard. It said 5:47 A.M....
...
All the girls in the nearby rooms and even some of the ones on the floor below woke up for a total of thirty seconds. In those thirty seconds, they vowed to utterly destroy whoever had the gall to wake them up at this ungodly hour of the morning.
...
I whimpered and rolled out of bed. Literally. I fell to the floor, and listened to Chanticleer bring up the sun with all the joy and glee that was in his body. Never before had I wanted a shotgun so badly. I sat up very slowly, not wanting to get dizzy from 'waking up' too fast. When I decided that I could stare without seeing three of him, I glared at the chicken with all the incredulous rage I could muster. I think I looked like a lazy-eyed frog. But he wasn't paying attention to me anyway. So I had to go verbal.
"Chantiā¦" I started, my voice hoarse from not using it all night, "You know I like you."
He looked at me and grinned. How the heck does a chicken grin, anyway? "Aw, thanks honey. I like you too."
"That's lovely. But I'd like you to look at my clock, please."
He did so. He stepped back, a befuddled but still smiling look on his face. I wondered if he would smile if I pulled his tail feathers out. "It's almost six! Time for the sun to come up!"
"Yes, yes it is. But I don't have to get up until eight, you see."
"Well, now you have more time to enjoy the day!"
I was going to kill him.
"I understand that you're just one of those early risers, and I really appreciate your endeavors to assist in getting the sun to bless us with her radiance, but you know what I would appreciate even more?"
Chanti beamed at me. "What?"
I reached up and grabbed the bandana he always had around his neck and yanked his face close to mine. "I would appreciate it if you would bring the sun up in a place other than my dorm room." My sinister growl and Glare of Doom wiped the happy expression right off his face. I felt a little bad about that for a moment. Then I remembered he woke me up two hours early. It went away.
I let go and he backed away. "Sure thing, honey," he said, the bright expression coming back. I walked back over to my bed and collapsed onto it, staying awake long enough to pull some blankets over me. He was gone before I fell back asleep.
Review if you like! I loved this movie when I was young, and I recently ordered it. I'm going to be able to watch it again! Just like the old days.... *Sigh*
