Teh Vows
The cool night wind felt oddly cool on Alice's face as she gazed at wide expanse of beauty known as Marmoreal. Even in the darkness of the night it shines like a beacon, basking everyone with the feeling of hope longed for in this times. It almost made her guilty for refusing to be their champion.
Beside Alice stood the White Queen with a passive expression, making it difficult to decipher her thoughts. It was awkward, this quiet between them. Alice wanted to know her thoughts to know if it was all right to interrupt her musing, but it seemed rude to do so.
But apparently, Alice didn't have to suffer even more with thinking of how to start a conversation, because it was the Queen who started first.
"I had hope to have a champion by now," the White Queen breath, nonchalantly looking far away.
It was only now that Alice realized that it was very hard to suppress a twitch in the eyelid when it comes naturally and not done on purpose.
"Why don't you slay the Jabberwocky yourself; you must have the power," Alice said defensively.
Unknown to Alice the White Queen was also having same problems with controlling a face twitch.
"It is against my vows to harm any living creature," Mirana said after overcoming the twitch.
How noble, Alice thought seriously.
"The White Queen's head at one o'clock! Break, turn-evade it at all cost!" a firefly, that was pretending to be a pilot that also chose that time to suddenly fly pass Mirana's nose, said. "The White Queen's hand at twelve o'clo-" It went off course when the White Queen blew and swatted it. "We've been hit! Mayday! Mayday! We're going to crash!"
AIIIEEE! KSHHH!
Alice stared at the dead insect. She inconspicuously rolled her eyes away from it, carefully and skillfully avoiding eye-contact with the White Queen.
Mirana saw how Alice's eyes widened a touch at that killer strike and was quite unsure what to say. And just right after she told her of her vows. Oh that stupid, puny insect. If she could just slam her fist on the thi-
SKwaSH!
"I apologize. It was already dead and I just... couldn't resist..." Mirana said to Alice as she flicked the insect off the edge.
Alice rubbed the back of her neck. The White Queen chewed on her lip.
Silence.
"Anyway, I think it was a s-suicide bug sent from my sister t-to mislead you and-"
Alice cleared her throat. "Let's just pretend it didn't happened," she suggested neutrally, still rubbing the back of her neck.
Mirana smiled stiffly. "Yes. Let's."
A/N: Blah, blah, blah...because even now I still wonder why that firefly was there in the first place. And with such a short screen time... The title is not spelled incorrectly. It's actually spelled "Teh Vows" to make it obvious that this isn't really serious.
