There were so many things that he wanted to remember. The shocked look on Lassiter's face when he solved a case thought to be "unsolvable". The light that appeared in Juliet's eyes when she smiled. All of the different patterns and consistencies that helped him cheat his way through life.

His photographic memory allowed him to do things no one else could. He could remember names and faces. He could solve cases that no one else was able to. During school all he had to do was glance at a page in his textbook and he'd remember every word. It was a blessing really.

But it was also a curse.

For as many things he wanted to remember, there were ten more that he wanted to forget. The pained look on Mary's face as he died in his arms. The way the light disappeared from Juliet's eyes when he rejected her for Abigail. All the hate and hurt that was present throughout his life.

His photographic memory made it impossible for him to forget. He remembered the look of devastation on his father's face when his mother left. He could see the gruesome faces of the murder victims in his cases. Everything horrible that he had ever seen was burned into his memory.

His greatest blessing was his greatest curse.
