We found him Phil Coluson's words echoed through her mind. He'd left a half hour ago and now Peggy Soussa sat on the window seat looking out at New York City. Memories surged through her mind. She felt her heart both break and fill with indescribeable relief.
He'd been found half-frozen in the river, unconcious but alive. The syerum that had given Steve Rogers extrondairy talents and abilities had also kept him alive underwater for the last 70 years. Peggy had said goodbye to Steve that night on the Brooklyn Bridge when she'd poured the vial containing the last remaining sample of his blood into the waters below. She'd said goodbye and then had turned returning to her life.
It got easier with each passing day and Peggy had found that working at the SSR, keeping dangerous inventions and unknown iteams out of the wrong hands. It helped, it eased the loss and when she was not looking she found she had fallen in love again.
She'd always known Daniel Soussa fancied her, it was hard to miss the glances he gave her. The way he stood up for her in the early days of the SSR to Thompson and the others. He was a good man, a brave man, not to mention a handsome man. They'd had a good life together. They had had four children together, had a couple dozen grandchildren and even two great-grandchildren. A tear slid down Peggy's face as she wished Daniel could have been there to see the births of Daniel and Ryan, a day did not pass that she did not miss her husband.
He had passed away four years ago now, their youngest had just had her third daughter. For the second time in her life Peggy had lost apart of her heart now it felt like it was being put back together.
We found him echoed in her mind and through her tears she smiled. Captain America was back in the world and she felt a new hope dawn that maybe it was just a little bit safer.
