Eric wasn't prepared for this scenario. What man, what husband, ever is?
He had just wanted to go to bed. There had been a long day of work to get through, just as there was yesterday, and the day before, and the day before, and the day before…sure, one could say easily that he was working too hard, but he loved his kingdom and would let no harm come to it. He'd pulled several all-nighters, and spent many a night passing out for a few hours on the couch in his office. Eric had almost forgotten what his own bed felt like.
But it was getting late, so he trudged down the hall to his bedroom, opened the door, and his eyes bulged. There was someone else in his bed.
Ariel, his wife, was snoozing happily. He guessed she had gotten used to having the bed to herself. Maybe she didn't like sleeping alone. Well, based on who was in her bed, clearly she didn't.
"Mmm…Eric?" Ariel rolled over and sat up.
"Ariel!" Eric half-spat and half-groaned.
"What?"
Eric gestured to who was in their bed. "Why is he in my bed? Seriously?"
"What are you whining for? You hadn't slept here in, what, two weeks?"
"So?!" Eric stepped into the room and slammed the door. "That doesn't give you an excuse to invite others!"
"You've been gone so much lately! It's the nature of your job, I get it, but I don't really like sleeping alone!"
"Spread out! Get a stuffed bear!"
"I miss hearing someone else breathing! It's relaxing Eric, I need it."
"Well you didn't need to invite him! Look at him! Still sleeping on my side, just like he belongs there!"
"Oh Eric!" Ariel threw her hands up. "It's only Sebastian!"
