Author's Note: So to get in the December/holiday spirit, I decided to write a Christmas drabble from Castiel's POV, taking place in season 5. :) This one was exactly 400 words before the A/N's.

Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural.

If Castiel had to pick a word to describe it, he would choose 'normal'. This was odd in and of itself, seeing how nearly everything the Winchesters did could be considered highly abnormal. But not this. This, Castiel was sure, they were doing just right.

For he had seen many Christmases. Actually, he had been there for the very first. A little known fact is that the first Christmas happened to fall on a Thursday and it was Castiel's duty to guard that day. And since that first Christmas when he witnessed the birth of the Holy Child and watched as the baby's human family gathered around to welcome him warmly into the world, Castiel had seen such a large amount of Christmases.

He had seen people put up the first Christmas tree and prepare the first Christmas feast. He had been there when the first gifts of Christmas were given to honor the offerings of the three wise men to the Newborn King. He had seen children marvel at the appearance of presents under their tree, sure that the mythical figure of Santa Claus had brought them.

Castiel had seen the poor and the rich, the young and the old, the fools and the wise…And basically all of them had celebrated the holiday in the likeness of what he saw now.

Two brothers and a pleasantly gruff older man were gathered around a warm fireplace. They passed the evening by drinking a few beers and sharing some of the more interesting stories of their past. They smiled, laughed, bickered in a good-natured way…They were together as a family.

As Sam passed Dean another beer without needing to be asked…As Dean grimaced dramatically when Sam told a story from Dean's youth…As Bobby laughed and called the young men he clearly saw as his own boys 'idjits'…As the world stood on the brink of disaster, yet in the presence of one another these three humans still found the ability to joke and be merry…In all of this Castiel saw real family, and thus real Christmas.

So although Castiel knew that they were anything but normal as a group of individuals on any given day of the year…As a family celebrating the Christmas holiday? For once, normal was exactly what they were.

And as Dean looked up at the angel and called out, "Hey Cas, we saved you a beer!" Castiel felt normal for once too.
