DISCLAIMER: All hail the mighty gods at Paramount.
SPOILERS: Um, you have to see the middle portion of season two for this to make any kind of sense. Trust me.
RATING: G.
Do you trust me?
Chakotay walked into his quarters and then stopped. He was very angry. No, not quite angry. Hurt was the more appropriate feeling. He had been sure he had earned her trust. Why hadn't she let him know?
Realizing that he was still in the middle of the room, Chakotay made his way to the sonic shower. He stepped inside and let the pressure hit him all over. It felt good, but didn't ease his feelings.
Tuvok said it was his idea not to get the commander involved. And Chakotay could believe that, to a point. But Janeway was still the captain, and she could still tell Tuvok he was overreacting and that her first officer had a right to know.
I thought we were friends, Kathryn.

Janeway leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. This was much too stressful. Subterfuge plots to undermine her own ship and security? And she hadn't been able to tell Chakotay.
He was hurt and she had realized he was as soon as he found out. Tuvok had made very sound statements about not telling the commander, but she was captain. She should have known that Chakotay could be trusted. She was sure he could have acted the part. Or they could have picked another person for Tom to lash out at. Harry, perhaps?
No, they had considered Harry in the initial planning. Harry was a good officer, but he was still very young. The anger Tom would have directed at him might have been too much for the young ensign.
So they had settled on Chakotay. She had hated to watch it. Tom was actually quite brutal sometimes. And she had just wanted to call out "stop, no more." But she couldn't do that. No, she was the captain. And, more importantly, security was at risk.
I'm sorry, Chakotay. I wanted you to know.
