Summary: Who is Chad and what makes him tick?
A/N: Chad is a sweetie pie. We all need one of him in our lives, you know, that tall, strong silent type who'll carry us away when the world gets too much…
He never talks.
That is, he never talks with words. A gesture, a flicker, is all he really needs to convey his emotions. It's always been like that. When he does talk, it's after a long silence to make sure that he says exactly what is needed, not more, not less. From an early age, it was his actions that spoke the loudest.
His size is above average, frightening those who don't know him well enough to see the gentleness behind the deep voice. His power is explosive, literally, and he is capable of doing great damage to anyone who dares to injure the people he cares about.
Ichigo was first, because Ichigo defended him when he wasn't able to. He fights for Ichigo now, and that's the way it's going to stay. Whatever Ichigo wants, he'll do his best to achieve because they made a promise to fight for each other. He doesn't need to physically see Ichigo watching his back; he's been there and done that.
His heart is even bigger than he is. At one stage he was so unbearably lonely that he didn't know what to do about it, and then steadily, people filled up his life. Whenever he dreams, it is of a girl who seems so tough on the outside, yet is so fragile, the girl whose life he saved so long ago. Kurosaki Karin haunts him, but she doesn't know it. Everywhere he goes, so does his memory of her. He thinks he's in love, but since he's never experienced it, he really doesn't know. At one stage he wanted to talk to Kuchiki-san about it, but he never did.
He and Nova get along really well since neither of them say anything. When they fight together, their silence speaks for them. When they sit together in the late afternoon sunlight, it's easy to forget that Nova is a mod soul, and doesn't have a body. Lately, he's been trying to look beyond appearances, because he knows just how easy it is to judge someone by what they look like only to be blown away by their power.
Look at Kyouraku Shunsui. He's a perfect example.
When Ururu was swallowed up by the Bounto's doll, it was one of the few times he lost his temper. Not only was it because he had tried and failed to save her, but because he had to rely on something other than strength and it terribly unnerved him to see Matsumoto standing alone with the whale towering over her.
Her friends probably would have killed him if anything had happened to her, but they would have failed because he would have killed himself.
Chad never talks.
That is, he never talks with words.
Ichigo taught him that silence can be far more telling, and in the silence of the nights, he knows it to be true. When he lies in bed, unable to sleep, he can hear the world around him whispering softly and it comforts him when nothing else does.
Chad never talks.
That is, a simple gesture is all he needs to convey his emotions.
In silent nights he hears his friends and he smiles.
