Until I Die
Luke stood in the diner silently, the lights all off around him. He had just flipped the sign on the door, letting the people of Stars Hollow know that Luke's Diner was closed for the night. A tired sigh escaped him as he turned, getting ready to clean the coffee machine. As he picked up the coffee pot, he was suddenly assaulted by memories of her.
The coffee pot fell to the floor, shattering into a million pieces... just like his heart had, but she didn't care. She had moved on, marrying the man that had no place in her heart, or so she had said. Lorelai had claimed that Christopher Hayden was nothing to her. Yet, he was the one she had run to after their arguement. He was the one she had slept with. He was the one she had finally married.
Luke cursed himself for thinking about her. He bent down, starting to pick up the larger pieces of glass. He flinched, hissing as his palm caught the sharp side of one of the shards. Luke pulled his hand away, the palm slowly starting to bleed. Grabbing his rag, he pressed it to his hand, watching as it seeped up the blood.
Blue eyes dark, he left the rest of the glass in the floor, resolving to sweep it up in the morning. Because, right now, he felt sick. He had realized at the very beginning that Lorelai would be it for him. Luke knew, with painful clarity, that he would love her until the day he died. HE COULD date. He could marry. Hell, he could even move away from Stars Hollow and start a family... but he could never stop loving her. The day he stopped was the day his heart was unable to beat any longer.
