No Greater Love

The world erupts,
Convulses,
Shatters at his feet.
Silently
He stands and watches
The flaming glory
That signals the passing
Of his Love.

The world, young, dying,
Echoes
The agony of another Friend,
Reborn
Yet to die.
And a son,
Hardly known,
Is Gone.

Surely there is no hope.

His world erupts,
Convulses,
Shatters at his feet.
His soul cries out in despair,
Sacrifices mounting
Against all Hope
And Life.
"What have I done?"

Yet even in Death
There Remains
A thin thread of Life
Given to those who
Endure.
Its price is high,
Bartering the soul.
"Greater love hath no man..."
