"I didn't know you moved like that," interjected a rich, well-humored voice.
"Usually only when I think no one is looking," Sarah turned almost bashfully to inspect her king.
Jareth grinned.
"I used to put on my favorite songs and just…well…" she was getting self-conscious again.
"Dance?" His eyes sparkled impishly.
Sarah's face spread in a soft smile as she turned and walked toward the open window. Her lungs rejoiced at the scent of morning, a fresh mirror to the joy in her heart knowing the one she loved was near.
He stepped gently over to stand a foot behind her and follow the paths of her eyes out over the last vestiges of Autumn's muted, misty dawn.
Her eyes flashed backward, signaling to their object her intention to break the peaceful silence settling upon them.
He touched her shoulder gently in assent, inviting her to speak her mind.
"It sounds funny, but I always liked dancing to the wilder songs. The ones that twisted spirit into song and spiraling sound."
"Doesn't surprise me in the least," his fingers felt under her brown tresses for the softer hair lining her nape.
She held her breath, concentrating on the feather-lightness of his touch, before finally exhaling and refocusing her pupils on the ochre tones lining the hillside.
It occurred to her once more how much she enjoyed his stillness. The way his spirit filled the space around her and opened her soul to everything all at once. How she could soar in mind across the tops of golden, brown and red tinted leaves and yet remain in awe and delectation of his softly insinuating caress. She loved the absence of contradiction, the total peace and integration his company invited.
Feeling his warmth a breath away, she at last turned to rub her cheek into his welcoming shoulder.
Looking up into his mesmerizing eyes, she asked, "How was breakfast?"
"All went well enough," his voice hummed low in his throat, lulling Sarah's thoughts into a gentle rhythm, "How is my queen?"
Sarah sighed her smile into his chest and clasped his slender arms with her smooth hands like a sleepy kitten.
