"Look My Way, Honey"

Title: "Look My Way, Honey"

Fandom: Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive

Pairing: Dax/Rose

Rating: PG

Spoilers: "Heart of Blue"

Summary: After Mira breaks Dax's heart, Dax finds comfort with Rose.

Dax should have known better than to get involved with Mira. He really should have. Instead, he let his heart overrule his mind and got hurt. He felt cheated. He should have known it was too good to be true.

How could I have been so stupid? He thought as he turned over in his bed again and again. She probably knew who I was and played me like a fiddle the entire time. I should have known…. I should have KNOWN.

Dax was almost in tears now as he buried his face in his pillow. "I guess I really AM an idiot." He muttered.

Suddenly, there was a knock at his door. "Dax?"

It was Rose.

"Go away!" Dax yelled.

"Dax, I'm not leaving until you open this door and talk to me."

"Rose, please. I'm sure all of you are laughing at me for making such a fool out of myself!"

"Dax…I wasn't laughing. I know how much you liked her." Rose sounded sad. "It hurt me to see you heartbroken."

Something in Rose's tone made Dax lift his head. "Come in."

Rose opened the door and came to sit beside him on the bed. "I'm sorry, Dax."

"For what?"

"That things didn't work out…I know you really liked her." Rose sighed and placed her hand on his leg.

Her touch felt warm, even through his uniform.

"Not as sorry as I am." Dax murmured.

"You'll be all right." Rose's voice was encouraging. "You'll be back to good old Dax in no time. I'm sure of it."

"How are you so sure, Rose?" Dax asked, lifting his head and looking up into her warm brown eyes.

Her smile was warm, sweet, encouraging. Dax felt better already just by looking at it. "Because that's who you are, Dax." She said. "I like that…I've always liked that."

Dax sat up and Rose withdrew her hand.

Their eyes met for a moment and Dax carefully, gingerly, reached out his hand and touched her face. His touch was gentle and warm and he ran his fingers down her face, brushing some of her dark hair away. "You like that?" he asked.

"Yes." She smiled. "I like it, Dax…" She paused. "I like you."

His eyes widened and Rose bit her lip and lowered her gaze.

"I thought you liked Mack." He murmured.

"Mack isn't interested…and he's not my type. I like guys who can make me genuinely laugh…I know I can use some laughter in my life." She smiled, her skin taking on a reddish tint. "That's why I like you. You make me laugh."

Dax was surprised, but his hand didn't leave her face. "You genuinely like me?"

"Yes!" Rose smiled, looking at him. "Do I have to spell it out in algebraic equations?"

Dax's eyes lit up and the smile Rose had come to enjoy was back. "Oh…well, then, I, uh… I, uh…Ilikeyoutoo."

Rose was confused, but then, she put it together. Her smile lit up the room.

Dax backtracked and his cheeks took on a pink tint. "I mean…I like you, too, Rose."

"I know." She leaned over to him and pressed a kiss, soft and chaste to his lips. "You didn't have to say it."

He brushed some hair away and kissed her again, leaning over and pressing her back against the soft dark blue covers on his bed.

Rose smiled, sighed and wrapped her arms around Dax's shoulders, content to just enjoy the moment.

Mack was a lousy kisser, anyway.
