Travails with the Wheel of Fate

In the silence of what used to be /his/ heart, a man sits silently.
There is nothing to do but wait for his other half to visit him. He
is a prisoner of himself. So he thinks.

I have the blood of millions on my soul.
Blood.
So much blood on my hands.

He looks at his own hands. They are strong and white. Clean. No trace
of blood whatsoever.

Otousan.
I might have just as well run the shinken through his heart myself.
Neesan, Kotori-chan..
I did run the shinken through your heart.
And the windmaster.
The millions who died in the earthquakes.

He turns his hands around, staring at them. No trace of blood
whatsoever.

Kamui.
Sumimasen. Can you ever forgive me?
I failed to protect you.
I caused you so much pain.
You always thought I was the strong one.

The silence was broken by the arrival of another figure. A hauntingly
familiar figure, identical to his own.

Love/hate/anger

"So quiet today, Koibito?" he asked, mockingly.

Fuuma obstinately refused to answer.

If he's that smug, it can only be bad news he brings-

"Ah, yes," the other said, correctly interpreting his
thoughts. Do you know the dreamgazer, Hinoto?"

He waited a short while, but when there was no answer, he
continued. "She lost her own inner battle today."

"Nani?!" Fuuma was startled out of his inner resolve.

"Just like you." A glimmer of a cold smirk appeared on his
lips. Another setback for the dragons of Heaven, ne?"

He moved closer to Fuuma's solitary figure. Fuuma felt his
other's lips snake around to his throat.

"Another key to the destruction of your beloved, ne?"

Fuuma stiffened, moving away from his other, but the other caught him
in a tight embrace, turning him around to face him. "The future
has already been decided, Koibito."

"If I don't kill Kamui, another will. Or he will kill himself.
Because he could never bring himself to harm you. Either way, there
is only one future."

"So surrender to me, Koibito." He whispered in Fuuma's ear,
breath hot against his neck, soothing Fuuma's trembling. Let me
release Kamui from all his suffering."

He caught Fuuma's lips in a kiss that lasted long and deep.

So sweet, so beautiful..
How could one who is so evil bring so much wonder-?
But I will not surrender.

His resolve to stand against his other half strengthened. Pushing his
other away, he cried, "No!"

The other only laughed. "Ah, but you want it, don't you? Don't forget
how you lost control of the body in the first place." He leered.

Fuuma replied, softly." As long as I hold out you can never kill
Kamui."

"But I can hurt him. His life will be living hell. And you will beg
me to end it." He smirked at Fuuma. "Even if it means giving up
your wish."

He's right
If this continues, if Kamui continues to suffer, just because of
me..
No.

His other continued. "You know you don't want him to suffer. You love
him, don't you? That and your misguided, constricted upbringing
killed all of humankind when you lost to me."

"You will surrender." Then he was gone.

Fuuma was once again alone in the emptiness of the heart.

He's right.
I won't hold out forever.
But I can never win against him.
And I have doomed the world.
