"I'm sorry," he told Harry walking away from him. They had been sitting by a large tree by the lake during Harry's re-do year at Hogwarts after the war was over. He and Ginny had decided to take a break and just enjoy their last year at Hogwarts and see what happens.
To say that Harry was surprised when one day he was kissed by a guy would be the understatement of the year. The even bigger surprise was that Harry liked it and grew to like being with him. Harry could admit that he might have been falling in love with him.
So Harry was surprised and just a wee bit hurt when his boyfriend brought him to one of their favorite spots to talk just to break up with him. Harry could admit if only to himself it hurt. He didn't have time to wallow privately for long though since Hermione sat on the ground next to him.
"I was surprised to see him come back up to the castle. You both have been glued to the hip since you started dating?" she asked him, wondering what changed.
"He broke up with me," Harry told her simply, plucking at the grass.
"Need me to punch him in the nose?" Hermione asked.
Harry choked on a laugh, unsure if Hermione was being serious or not. "I'm good thanks."
She shrugged leaning her head on his shoulder. "Let me know if you change your mind. The offer stands for whenever or whoever you need."
"Thanks Hermione," Harry told her. "I would like to try to avoid violence this year except for Defense class if you don't mind."
"Suit yourself," she told him, standing up and brushing off her uniform skirt. She reached her hand out to him to pull him to his feet. "Now come on, N.E.W.T.s aren't going to study for themselves and it will help distract you," she told him pulling him up once he took her hand.
"Yes, mother," Harry groaned.
"Why you!" she glared thumping him with the book in her hand.
"Ok, ok I surrender!" Harry agreed walking off to go into the castle to humor her.
