A/N: This is a one-shot fanfic between Veronica Mars and Duncan Kane. Hope you enjoy it, I don't know if it's very good. Please Review!
Veronica walked into Neptune High bright and early on a Monday Morning. She wasn't usually at school early, but today she was feeling particularly happy since she had just solved a case that had been bugging her for a week. Plus, she wanted to put a certain camera inside a certain guidance counselor's office to get more information on Duncan's mysterious illness.
The school was completely deserted. Just as Veronica liked it. She always hated it when there was a crowd of 09-ers around her whispering about her so-called "partying days". Suddenly, she stopped. She heard sounds of crying. It was coming from the stairway. She walked quickly and was shocked to see her ex-boyfriend, Duncan, sitting on the ground crying.
"Duncan? Is that you?" Veronica said quietly.
Duncan looked up and saw Veronica standing over him. His face blushed because he was embarrassed that she found him crying.
"Oh, hi Veronica." he said slowly. He quickly brushed his face with his Neptune sweatshirt.
Veronica sat down next to him. They both sat in silence for a few moments.
"What's wrong, Duncan" Veronica asked. Although Veronica was known for being a curious and nosy busybody, Duncan knew that she was really a caring person trying to uncover the truth.
"Oh, it's nothing…" Duncan said.
"Duncan", she said, "it is something. You can trust me. You know you can."
Duncan sighed. He could trust Veronica. He began telling her what was wrong.
"Ever since Lily's death, I can't seem to feel good about who I am and what I'm doing. Who am I? I'm Duncan Kane. I'm rich, I'm a football star, and I'm the president of the student body. Why did I deserve to live so much more than Lily did? Why wasn't I the one who was murdered? Everyone expects so much of me and is always complimenting me, but I never feel like I deserve it. Lily was never complimented; she was always the embarrassment of our family. I was the model child. But Lily, well, Lily was Lily. She was good in her own ways. She deserved to live…"
Veronica listened patiently. Obviously Duncan was having a self-confidence issue.
"Duncan, Lily did deserve to live. You shouldn't feel guilty that you were the one that survived. You should be the best person you can with what was given to you. Seize this life. Make it worthwhile. You're a great person, and everyone knows that. Keep Lily's memory alive by going on with your life. She would have wanted you to."
Duncan smiled. Veronica always had a way of making him feel better. It was not the words that gave him comfort, but the person who spoke them.
"Thanks Veronica." he said.
"Any time. Duncan, well, I know we haven't talked in a while, but my feelings never changed for you. I…I still love you."
Duncan smiled an even bigger smile. "I love you too, Veronica. Do you want to see a movie this Friday?"
Veronica smiled. "Of course."
Once again, Veronica Mars saved the day. This time, she saved Duncan's future.
