"Try again."

Fionna sent another roundhouse kick at the Vampire King's side. She made sure to put all of her strength into it. But Marshall Lee didn't even faulter, didn't even cringe at all.

"Again." He said.

"Did that even hurt?" She asked breathing heavily.

"Weakest one yet. Again."

She used her frustration and anger and put it all into punching him in the chest. She even let out a battle cry this time.

But all in vain.

"This is stupid, Fionna. You can beat up every other monster out there." Another punch was sent at his chest. "I'm just one monster. Its not like you're gonna encounter another me everyday."

"I don't care!" Another kick. "I want to be able to kick a vampire's butt if I encounter one by myself!" Two more punches. Fionna took a brief break from trying to inflict harm on the king and grabbed a bottle of water from her green bag. "Besides. Becky could kill a vampire. She could beat up anybody."

"Why is killing me so important to you?" Marshall Lee asked walking over to her. "Plan on putting forth a sneak attack, human?" He cocked a brow and gave her a seductive smirk.

"I'd never kill you on purpose. I just don't like not knowing how to kill something. You're practically indestructible!" Fionna said gesturing to the objects of various weapons on the ground. Knives, swords, and wooden steaks covered in black blood piled on the floor. All of the basic weapons of killing vampires that turned out to be myths were there as well. At one point, Fionna got a chainsaw as an attempt.

"You do realize that if you succeed, I'd die, right?" Marshall Lee said with a chuckle.

The adventuress dropped it onto the floor and sighed.

"What?" He asked.

"I learned that if you aren't worried, the weapon won't kill you."

"Im not indestructible, Fi. I'm just, hard to kill. Its really rare for me to actually nearly die." Marshall noticed the look of failure on the heroine's face and decided that he hated that face. They'd been at it all morning and she was getting nowhere. He knew that there was a way to kill him, he just didn't want to tell her.

Now he had no choice. Its not like she was going to kill him when she found out.

"Decapitation."

"What?" Fionna said looking up at him.

"Decapitation. And..." He walked closer to her and grabbed her hand. He placed it on his chest where his heart was.

The adventuress was surprised to realize that it was beating faintly. She always assumed that his heart was stagnant. Dead. But here it was, pumping contaminated black blood that coursed through his veins.

He grabbed a stray dagger from the ground. He let go of her hand, but it still remained there. He bit into his wrist with his long, lethal fangs and Fionna watched blood drip from his wrist onto the dagger.

"This another way to kill me. By plunging a dagger covered in my blood into my heart." Her eyes watched his wound heal and allowed for them to look back into his. "I'll do whatever it takes to make sure that no monster, not even me, hurts you Fionna. No matter what." He planted a kiss on her lips that sent shivers down her spine. His lips lingered and then pulled away. "As long as this dead vampire heart is beating, no one will hurt you."
