"No."

"Miranda - " He tried to sidestep her into the call room, but she firmly planted her one free hand on that side of the doorway, looking up defiantly at him.

"No." Her eyes flickered dangerously and he stiffened, clearing his throat.

"Dr. Bailey - " he started, ready to launch into his I-am-the-chief-and-you-are-not-to-question-my-authority speech, but as always -

"I'm sorry, Chief, I wasn't aware you were in dire need of a cochlear implant because did I or did I not just say no, you may not wake up my interns."

"But - "

"Are there any traumas?"

"No, but - "

"Dire emergencies?"

"No, but still - "

"I am not done, Richard. Anything that may result in a fatality in the next fifteen minutes?"

"No, but - " He found a finger firmly planted in his line of view, despite her being a good head or two shorter than he was.

"Then I stand by my words, sir - now let my interns catch what is probably their longest sleep in the last fifteen or so hours, and by God, if I catch you disturbing one hair on their heads I will tear you down faster than any fairy tale wolf can. Did I make myself clear."

"Yes, ma'am, but - "

"What did I just say?" The short general surgeon managed to suddenly look much, much more imposing than the chief of surgery towering over her and he wilted, mumbling a yes ma'am under his breath before scuttling off awkwardly with his white coat flapping after him, casting an annoyed glance and murmuring 'mother hen' under his breath.

"Damn straight," she muttered, turning back to look at the five interns napping in a pile.

"Mother hen? So the nazi does have a soft side," Alex groggily quipped from somewhere under Cristina's legs and on top of George's stomach, Izzie curled up next to his head and Meredith awkwardly sprawled over his arm.

"Shut up and go back to sleep, Karev," she retorted reflexively, not even turning around as she scribbled something down on her clipboard. "I did not just tell off the chief resident so you could laugh at me."

"Yes, ma'am," they chorused back at her, and she let the door swing shut as she leaned back against the wall, sipping at her coffee.

No one was messing with her interns today.
