She never really hung out on the roof. It was more or less Andy's and Miranda's place to contemplate life; occasionally David did here too. But somehow the news of Scott Becker's death had led Pam Acosta here. She still remembered the conversation she had had with Scott before his transplant.

"I'm going to stay clean you know," he had said.

"I've heard people a lot closer to me than you say that. And they weren't lying. They just didn't know what it takes," she had answered, "You don't even know the tip of the iceberg Scott," she now thought.

"Hey Pam. I thought you were up here," she heard Andy say.

"Uh yeah," she blushed, "Sorry."

"You can do whatever you want. My name's not on the building is it?" Andy joked.

"No Miranda's is," Pam laughed suddenly amused by it all.

"I take it you're just letting it all sink in," Andy said, "About Scott."

"Andy you don't have to talk about it. I know how much he meant to you."

"It just seems like… It just seems like there's more going on with you. What's wrong Pam?" Andy asked.

Pam sighed and wiped away the tears running down her cheeks, "This all just takes me back to my childhood. I mean the early part of my life in Cleveland was fine. Until I was ten and that's when my father died in a car accident."

Andy nodded. He knew Pam's father was dead.

"My mother became an alcoholic. And she just spiraled downhill. My brother and I spent most of our teen years in foster care. I was finally adopted when I was sixteen and my new family allowed me to make something of my life. I don't even know what happened to my brother," she rambled, "Anyway, my mother died from liver failure three years ago. No one knew about it. She didn't have a funeral or anything. And just thinking about Scott brings all those bad memories back."

"God Pam, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize…"

"You didn't know. I haven't told anyone. Other than you," she responded.

"I sort of know how you feel. I had a rough childhood too," Andy said rubbing Pam's shoulder soothingly. Pam nodded. No one knew exactly about Andy's past other than Rena who had been there. But she knew enough that Andy had beaten the odds to become a doctor; like she had to become a nurse.

"Hey it's late and we've both had crappy day. You want to go out for a drink?" Pam just raised her eyebrows, "I mean sorry. I wasn't…" Andy stuttered.

"Don't worry I'm just teasing. I think we both deserve one," she smirked.
