When it came to writing poems, Robin was just as good as the next guy, if not a little better. He couldn't help it; he just naturally excels. Now, he wouldn't let anyone know he could write poems. That would be uncharacteristic of him. It would be like Batman writing a poem! Needless to say, it's unheard of. So why did he do it?
So it came as a shock to Kid Flash when he came across one of these poems. It was a normal day at HQ, and he was being his normal self. Getting into as much trouble as he could unintentionally manage. And so, when he saw Robin's door open just a crack, he just had to step inside. It was calling to him.
And upon entering said room, he was shocked to find his friend wasn't in there. (He had just stepped out for a second to get himself a snack. What could possibly happen?) Well, that was perfect! So Kid Flash stepped over to his desk to check out the contents on it before bird boy could arrive. And while skimming the top of the desk, a piece of paper caught his eye. And so, of course, he picked it up. And this was what was on it:
I am hiding,
Cowering, behind a mask.
You shall never see me,
The real me.
You won't see my scars,
They are covered.
You won't know my past,
It's not on display.
You'll think you know me,
But you won't have a clue.
I can't let you get close.
I can't let you see
The real me.
"So, do you like what you read?" The young speedster jumped. Robin was back. Gulp.
"Robin! God! You scared the living hell outta me! You need to stop doing that whole "disappearing and appearing" act!
"Did you like what you read?" Robin repeated, his expression a combination of annoyance and amusement.
"Um... well... yeah. It was good. And... it sounded like you..." Kid Flash trailed off, uncertain of his response. He told the truth- lying about something like that was not like him.
"Sounds like me? How so?" Robin looked curious.
"Well..." The speedster adopted a thoughtful look. "You can't allow anyone to know your identity. I'm not even suppposed to know it, yet I do. And I consider myself lucky for that. There are so few who know... Not only your identity, but your past. I don't even know it, and I'm your best friend. And you aren't one to express emotion, so you probably have a lot bottled in you..." Again, he trailed off.
Robin nodded and smiled. "Yeah, well, I'm glad you approve. But," his tone turned serious, "if you ever even hint to people that I wrote something like this, I'll have to kill you."
Needless to say, Kid Flash kept his mouth shut.
Well, that was my first Young Justice fanfic. I hope I didn't make the characters OOC. I tried not to. Well, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you know how to tell me. :)
