Almost every girl in the room was staring at the handsome young man standing at the entrance of the ball. So pre-occupied that none of them noticed one small short girl, sneak up the stairs slowly. W.W. Hale's eyes flitted to Kat as she walked up the stairs, and gave her the signal. They were one step closer to stealing the most prized jewel in the world.
Meanwhile…
Kat scanned her surroundings carefully; one mistake could cost her life. Once she saw that the coast was clear she headed straight to the room holding the jewel. Walking in the room, she opened the window and watched as a tall, beautiful girl slipped in wearing all black.
"Ready?" asked Kat staring at her cousin, who was now slipping on some gloves.
"Ready as I'll ever be" Gabrielle replied with a wry smile. Picking up the stone with gloved hands, Gabrielle slipped the jewel into a pouch hanging on her belt. "Too easy" she said with a small smile on her face. "All we have to do now is disappear."
Facing each other the girls helped each other slip on harnesses and helmets and braced themselves at the open window, waiting for the all clear.
"You're ready to go" whispered Hale. Kat slid out the window and clipped herself onto the wire hanging outside. "Good Luck Kitty Kat."
Kat swung down onto the grass and helped her cousin as she dropped down as well. They took off their harnesses and slid them into the backpack Gabrielle was holding. And they ran off into the night, the jewel never to be seen by the public eye again.
